Just wondering if anyone has tried D-Mannose for bladder infections? It is a natural supplement and is supposed to help clear up bladder infections and be stronger than cranberry tablets. My husband has Klebsiella in his bladder and I am looking for an option other than antibiotics to clear it up.

Hi, D-Mannose does work but not for Klebsiella. It works for e-coli as does cranberry (without sugar) and for AB's that is the most common bladder infection which is why the success rate in treating "most" infections. I use a parsley tea which I can let you know about if you like which I find helps. I am just on my way to work though so am lacking time right now. Klebsiella can be nasty as it gets into the lungs and can cause pneumonia if you are not careful so don't hesitate to use the antibiotics if he develops a cough. Depending on his injury level it can be serious especially if he is vented (sorry I never checked that in your profile) or a quad. You can always try the D-mannose to fight another day if you have to use the antibiotics this time.

My husband uses that and it's been working very well. It is mostly effective I think with e coli infections though, so it might not help you. He has only had 1 uti since he started taking it, which is amazing considering he used to have them almost constantly. A few of his friends who had uti problems, and who are also quads, have used it too with success.

The powder is supposed to be more effective than the pills. We just put 1 scoop in juice or gatorade 2-3 times a day. You can put it in anything except fizzy drinks-- I tried to put it in pop once and it made the pop overflow! He says it does not usually add a taste to the drink either.

You can order it off the Internet or at Vitamin Shoppe. We have decided to give it a try. We asked 2 different doctors for their opinion and both said it is very safe and worth a try. From my research on the internet, it looks like it works just as effectively for Klebsiella as it does for E.Coli. I will let you know how it works out!

D-Mannose prevents E-coli infection of the bladder, but does it prevent E-coli infection of the urethra as well? In a normal urinary tract system before injury the urine flushes baddies out of the urethra (Where bacteria accumulate the easiest) with voiding but this does not happen with catheterizing. Anyone know?

Hope it worked out well for you.
