Sooo! Has anyone been in an enclosed room for long hours and found a way around urination?

This is the 4'th time since my accident that I will be going on a 16 + hour airplane ride (2 planes, 8+8 hours) and I HATE traveling because I HATE airplanes.

I used a condom cath on my last trip... however, the problem with the condom cath is that when I get flaccid my penis shrinks enough that it'd make the condom thingy slip off. Then I'm screwed... and I can't well intermittent cath right in front of everyone!

So I was thinking my solution would be to take some viagra and it'd keep me hard and thus keep the condom cath intact. However... I don't know how long viagra lasts. I also don't know if I can take it again right away after it wears off ... enough to last 16 hours...

I just don't know! I hate airplanes. There should be an accessible bathroom or a special accessible area for WC users. I'd love to sit in my own chair during a flight.

So... what do you folks do? help? tips? suggestions?

This has been spoken about before & a lot of people seem to use an indwelling cath for long flights & use their cushion to sit on.

I use to be indecisive but Im not so sure anymore

If you are using an external cath--try gluing it on with Skin bond cement. I used a condom taped to the leg bag tube and glued the condom straight to the penis--harsh but works--when the turtle pulls it's head in.

I am preaty sure that the viagra would not last that long and would be fairly uncomforatable, unless you plan to join the mile high club.

Actually an erection lasting longer than 4hrs can cause damage to the physical structures of the penis. Why do you think on those commercials for Viagra it says "if you have an erection lasting longer than 4hrs seek medical help"? So tape it & all you risk loosing is some hair (free wax job) & a few skin cells.......or go ahead & try giving yourself a 16hr (that's 4x longer than what they say is the limit of when you should seek medical help) erection that although it might get you a couple #s of the stewardesses , you won't have anything to work with on the date.

The glue and/or tape might work,, but I'ld go with the foley, a leg bag, and an overnight bag stuffed in a small carry-on bag.

Connect the tube from the bottom of your leg bag to the bigger bag in the carry-on bag ( that you don't let them put in the overhead). That ought to do you for 16 hours,, even with a couple inflight drinks, I would think.

If you fill the lower bag, you can get the person traveling with you,,, or the stewardess,,, to empty it for you.

You might even leave the foley in for the whole trip, if it doesn't bother you too much.

Have a good flight.

I use a foley and the Manfred Saur 1500cc "Big Bendi Bag" when I had a very long flight I used a Plastic "Y" piece from a DIY store (sterilised by soaking in bleach) to join two of these bags but in fact one would have done it. If trips are not too long I just leave the foley in and give my bladder a rest :wheelchair: Remamber and take at least one spare with syringe for removal in case you get blocked up and I usually ask my GP for a prescription for antibiotics in case I get a UTI while away.

Thanks all for the suggestions.

I should have made it clear, though. That my main problem is this:

When my penis becomes flaccid, It retracts (turtle goes back in its shell) and the condom part slips off. Can I get recommendations for that? I read above "Skin bond cement" can I get more info on that? and/or more recommendations how to keep the condom on?

thanks :wheelchair:

u can do 2 things...I connect my condom directly to my leg bag, not tubing at all, i wear shorts when i do this and strap the bag more inside my leg..if u connect the condom directly to the bag, the eurine has to go directly str8 to the bag. Also u can change to a smaller size condom, that way there is no room for it to slip off. I use skin prep..put it on and let it dry, next put the condom on. After the condom is on squeeze it and trust me it will stick ''make sure u have a glue remover to take it off''...then u use a clear tape aound the base and that brown tape on top of the clear tape...should work

I have a friend who traveled alot with the quad rugby team. He threw a blanket over himself (it was dark in the cabin), and IC'ed in a plastic bottle. Have your GF or friend (either way, it's probably a very good friend), dump the bottle in the bathroom toilet the next time they go.

I use indwelling catheter attached to leg bag for long journeys. I carry two or three Cola bottles (always colored like Lilt or Sprite bottle) so that I can empty the leg bag before it burst. Colored drinks bottle disguises what is inside the bottle, specially if you have some one with you to empty the bottle. I also use pad to protect the seat (I use it in my car everyday). Here is one I use, and it is good. http://www.lifelonghealthcare.co.uk/acatal...nfo_AA2700.html I also carry the reusable bed pad found at same site. Always carry gloves, wet wipes, and spare cloth in cabin luggage. It is pretty bad if situation if you have bowel accident. Tip: Refreshing towels provided by during flight is ready source available if there is need :wheelchair: Before my next long flight I plan to take Imodium tablet to reduce chance of bowel accident, specially on return.

In cabin luggage carry some spare catheter, and any medication you may require, cause loosing baggage is not uncommon, and it will be difficult to find medical supply you need.

many airlines with newer planes apparently have access to a bathroom in flight with an aisle chair.

may pay to ask around.

otherwise indwelling caths.

Here is one site for Skin Bond; there are many others, I would google OstoBond for online retailers. Keep cap off of container for awhile to let glue dry some and become more viscous; otherwise it is does not get gluey enough.

http://txmedicalsupp...ngadhesive.aspx

There are other ED meds in the US that are active for more than 4 hours, such as Cialis. I am new to this board so do know yet how to find out where you are located, but check with your pharmacist for longer acting version of Viagra.

After traveling by plane for most of my 30 plus years as a para, I am disgusted by how service had deteriorated and lack of improvement for the disabled to fly. So last year was my last year to fly, from now on if I can't drive there in my van, well, it's no longer on my bucket list of places I need to go before this long ordeal is over.

BTW, carry an empty plastic soda bottle with cap through security search, and fill it up with water at a water fountain when you are waiting to board the plane. You never know how long you will be on the tarmac delayed and not able to get any water from flight staff. Good luck.
