Hi everyone!!

My name is Alex and I am new to the forum, but not so new to a spinal injury. I had my injury in 1996 when I was 14. It was a sports injury, I fell from about 15 foot.

I have an incomplete L1 injury.

I can walk with splints on my legs and crutches but for anything more than pottering round the home I use a wheelchair kindly given to me by the NHS! Its a Quickie Argon.

I have good movement of my legs, I can do more than I ever expected I would but I suffer really badly with pins and needles in my legs mixed in with a few numb patches. Anyone else have good movement (well ok movement) and pins and needles?

I have kind of hid from my injury for a long time, not wanting to know aboout it, talk about and so on but my OT told me to basically grow up and deal with it! And she is right!

So I thought I would join a forum and get to know a few people. I don't know any other people with a spinal injury.

I have a social worker who has me going to a day centre 2 times a week (mornings only) but I am quite shy and tend to keep myself to myself.

I also have Epilepsy but its very well managed.

I try and avoid pain meds as much as I can but do take some meds for a minor bit of anxiety I have, these also help me sleep at night which is an added bonus. The pain does get my down at times and the pins and needles are very uncomfy to live with but I have always thought of myself as lucky, as have my doctors.

Anyway look forward to getting to know you all.

Alex

Hi Alex. Welcome to the forum.

My injury is around the same level as yours, and I have quite good movement as well. I only get mild pins and needles occasionally if I have sat on my lazy backside for too long.

Anyway, have fun poking around the forum!
