Had fried chicken, a biscuit and gravy.

Dinner? In Germany there isn't much for dinner! At least nothing hot. Bread with: cheese (organic - very tasty), cold meat, strawberry jam, yoghurt with chocolate (I've got a "sweet tooth"), red wine and water. Had in the garden because it was such a nice pre-summer day today.

Actually, I like a little of both. haha

And, what kind of cheese? I like buterkase(sp: buttercheese . . . sorry, no umlaut).

Fried chicken, mashed potatoes, salad.

I believe that would be called "supper". "Dinner" is the main meal of the day, be it at noon or evening. When I lived in Germany, dinner was at noon. In the evening, we had leftovers from dinner or the type of things you are describing. Maybe both of these things have changed - the word and the meal.

Yes - I have often shocked my neighbours (as a kid) by insisting on jam for my SUPPER. People have got used to it! My husband loves mustard - very spicy / hot one. (What's it called? "extra-scharfer Senf")
Cheese: I like Butterkäse (ha! Umlaut on MY keyboard), I love Gouda (Dutch, though) and some kind of soft cheese (Frischkäse) with chile inside. Mmmhhh! Some people put jam on top of the cheese (my husband, my daughter ..., others ...). Do you like that? :licklips:

And - qbounce - since you said you loved my accent: Do have a look on the "words association" thread! The fantastic (!) English speech of our Mr. Öttinger, politician in the European Parliament. Have fun! My accent is a lot better - OF COURSE!

Thank you, spot. I didn't know that "dinner" could be at noon! I knew, however, that there is "supper", too. Didn't I say living is learning?
No - not much has changed. Some people have leftovers in the evening, too. But: As more and more family members do not get home for dinner / lunch at noon any more (our school system changing to afternoon lessons as well now), many families now have warm dinner in the evening. And I often eat at our "Cafeteria" (cafeteria? canteen? or what?) at school at noon. My colleague said the other day he sees me more often than his wife for dinner. Hmmm?? :licklips: My husband, in fact, a more typical German, really often has SAUERKRAUT with Kasseler (type of meat) and mustard in the evening, with beer. Awful, isn't it?

Today for dinner, at noon, at school: fish, noodles, brokkoli.

Swedish meetballs (well - brought from Ikea), spicy tomato sauce, pasta and plenty of cheese.

Topped off with whatever wild life happens to crawl across the plate while we are dining in the garden.

I wouldn't much care for sauerkraut with Kasseler (type of meat) and mustard in the evening, with beer, but it sounds very German. As does beer and chocolate cake for breakfast (yes, I've seen it.) I can't say my supper this evening was much better. I had ice cream.

Ice cream, eh? That's a good idea! :icecream: I said I had a "sweet tooth". Me, I like pancakes.
Today (at school, again): potatoes and herbed curd cheese. And espresso (to keep me awake for corrections.)

Guido is cooking lemon tarragon chicken. And i have just made chocolate biscuit cake. This one is cake number two, as I discovered too late that the birthday girl recipient does not like walnuts. Guido is pretty happy though as that means cake number one is all his! mmmmm lemon tarragon chicken smells good......

hmmm eggs and yoghurt... a difficult one to turn into a masterpiece...

yoghurt can be very effective on sunburn though. Are you sunburnt...?

that leaves you with just eggs...

Steaks here today...soon I'll hear the sizzle of the ribeyes grilling...and then a few whiffs of the cooking steaks will waft through the patio door, and this will mingle with the gentle scent of jasmine rice readying itself inside the cooker...toss in a salad and then my neighbor's homemade strawberry cake...and there goes my diet!

AND, it gets even better: out for lobster tails on the inlet tomorrow...ah some moments Life is good...at least there's always food... :H2kOther (26):

Don't know about dinner yet but since I'm in charge of grilling 150 hot dogs for our Friends of the Library Summer Reading program in the park today I suspect I'll be eating a hot dog for lunch. Of course eating anything I cook may be a life-threatening exsperience...
