I have put myself forward to be a trustee for the SIA, so Im hoping that when your ballot paper arrives you might consider giving me your vote.
My main reasons for wanting to do this is that I have the time, am quite pushy(!!) have some decent experience and would genuinly like to feel that I can improve the lives of sci people across the country. Sounds corny I know, but I hate seeing injustice and you only have to read all the messages here to see how society lets people down. If you give me your vote then I promise to do my very best for you as a member. Im also living in the very north of England which seems to be a rarity.

thanks for reading this, I know its a plug for myself but I hope you dont mind.

cheers
L

Hey L
Nothing wrong with a bit of shameless plugging, I know you will be excellent in the role.
Good Luck!
(maybe worth mentioning that the name "Lucydog" will not be featuring on ballot paper!)

I've certainly got nothing against you personally Luckdog, in fact I admire you. But as one of the original members of the SIA I've seen many changes.
I admit its done a lot of good over the years, bringing SCI to the attention of the public, helping change laws, improving access, all thing that were its initial aims when I joined.
I now feel its become a promotional tool for sales companies and Care Agencies, the main one being Active Assistance.
This Care Agency, which has a financial interest regarding the Continuing Care Scheme, has too much influence in SIA causing a conflict of interest.
The SIA chatroom held a debate about the Continuing Care Scheme, which was Chaired by the Director of Active Assistance; I felt this was wrong.
SIA should have had someone Independent informing members about the scheme, not a Director of a Care Agency who's only aim is to make profit from it.

My annual subscription is due, but I've sent SIA a letter stating the things I've written here and informed them I wont renew my subscription.
I wish you luck, Luckydog but with a name like that you probably wont need it.. :)
If you do get elected, I'd be interested on your views regarding what I've written here.

Best wishes

Mike
