Hey all,

Just wondering if somebody has found a place that's selling Spinergy SPOX Sports 26" wheels for cheap. I've seen Sportaid and Spinlife... just wondering if anybody knows of another provider that is cheaper again.

At the end of the day I will need them shipped to Australia. I'm looking for two sets.

Cheers,

Adam

Try Ebay. I've occasionally seen Spinergy wheelsets (used) pop up on there and there are some sellers who sell new sets. Make sure you put "wheelchair" in the search field though otherwise all the bike wheels will pop up.

EBay no 230366114749 $85 for a pair. Not sure if they will ship out of the US but if you know someone there you could have them forwarded. Good luck

Thanks for the tips.... i do look at ebay from time to time, but I would prefer new sets as they are going to be bashed around playing rugby.

Oldwheelz, good try with that item but they are 26" Spinergy Wire wheels. You had me excited though at $85!!!

I'm starting to think that sportaid is going to be hard to beat.

If being used for rugby, are you having your rugby chair custom built? Because you can probably get the person or company building your chair to deal with the wheels for you. Or are you putting them on an rugby chair you're currently using? Why are you using 26" for rugby though? MUCH harder to propel. 24" or 25" max are ideal. My rugby coach plays on the Canadian national team and was at the Beijing paralympics and I use one of her chairs. She said 24" wheels for rugby are the best size a couple weeks ago when we were having a wheel discussion.

I'm not for sure on how the position in rugby work, but in basketball the different position normally use different size wheels. For those smaller guys like me who doesn't have as much mobility we go with the small wheels for more speed and better maneuverability. The taller guys won't don't need the maneuverability as much want the tall wheels cause of course the taller they sit in the chair the better for rebounds and such. I'm currently using 25's but that's just because I don't have enough dough to buy separate wheels for my basketball/tennis chairs(both hand me downs), so I use the wheels from my daily chair.

The wheels are for a new chair, but the prices that are charged have a considerable markup and it's cheaper to source the wheels on your own.

As far as size selection.... I am 6'5" so will have a pretty 'big' setup. The 26" wheels are too further exploit my height and reach. I've had a fair bit of help from a few Australian players and the Australian coach and we're going for a setup that is a meld between Chance Sumner's current chair and a couple of Brad Dubberley's old chairs. Chance runs on 26's as has Brad in the past.

I am currently using a chair that is on 25's and have also used chairs on 24's. I hated the 24's, while take-off is a bit easier, top end speed is awful. 25's are better, and I'm hoping for even better results from the 26's. Brad has also told me that you get better power out of 26" wheels when breaking out of pick bars... something I will have to get use to as a 3.0 player.

Hopefully this chair and perhaps another will help me make a run at 2012, although it's going to be more about hard work!

I just had a look and they look pretty handy, although look like the kind of thing that is better suited to a low point player. I don't really want anything 'grippy' on my chair as it may give the low pointers some help in holding me up. And also... they're bloody expensive!

There is a guy on my rugby team who is big guy (and a quad). He was saying that he tried 24, 25, and 26" wheels (on different chairs I believe) and found it incredibly difficult to propel the 26" wheels compared to the smaller ones. I don't recall what classification he is. Even for me, I have tried both 24" and 25" in rugby and found the 25" make me tire out much faster because I have to work harder to get speed. Agility-wise, I don't see much difference between 24 and 25 though. Different chair sports call for different setups, of course, and it also varies from chair to chair but I guess everyone has their own preference! Whatever works!
