Hi, my partner was wondering if there was anywhere in wales that did custom build chairs?

he has just received a new chair yesterday , but it dosn't do as it was ment to.

the angle of the front bars down to the footplate is out to far and he can't get to the bath, sink and so on ,

that aside his spasms are really bad, as he normally tucks his legs under him as far back as they will go,

as this breaks them, this he can't do now due to the positioning of the front of the chair.

He is 6'4 and needs 26 inch wheels so they have got to get a chair made for him.

any info would be invaluable.

thank's

Who provided the current chair? The wheelchair service? If so, how did they get his requirements so wrong?

sunrise medical, provided the chair.

the rep took measurements from his current chair ,

and said that they would do the addjustments that he needed,

the last chair that he had came from america , as they couldn't do the script here.

he had that one 8 years ago,and is the one that he still is using,

but even that one is wrong as when e received it the frame was twisted.

He is very down at the moment as he has got this new chair sitting in the corner,

and he can't use it after waiting so long for it as well,

he has rang the wheelchair service today and he has to get the chair back to them,

and then find someone who can acctually do a chair for him and fight for that one.

at the moment the only one that could fit his needs would be a titanium chair ,

this would have to be made special as well but they won't provide this as it is too expensive

so we were just wondering if there were any other companies that would build one,

then we could put this forward to see if it would be acceptable,

Excuse my ignorance but why is it only a titanium chair will fit his needs?

First off I would be complaining to the company you got the new chair from if it is totally wrong.
You should try contacting Sunrise Medical direct & make complaint about the Rep.
If the company you used is a member of BHTA contact them to.

I use to be indecisive but Im not so sure anymore

I'm confused.

This implies that the chair came from the W/C service.

So if it organised and ordered by them from Sunrise, why did he accept the chair if it wasn't to the specifications agreed with the W/C service?

In any event, as they apparently were the suppliers, why not get them to sort it out? Why are you talking about sourcing another supplier yourselves?

I didn't actually accept the chair, I was going to leave it there but, the OT told me to take it away, try setting it up as I wanted it and see if it would make it any better, she was alreadyt aware there were problems but, wanted me to look at it further, to figure out just how many.

We spent an hour with the OT and then another 2 in the house setting it up but, it just became more and more apparent they had not built the chair as had been disscused with the reps.

At the moment, I'm going back to see them next Thursday, and matters are going to go from there, the appliance service is not yet sure WHAT they will do but, are aware the chair does not meet my needs, was not as script and it will be returned, a fact I made clear to them the following morning.

The only reason for the titanium request is, they will basically build the chair in pretty much any configuration, IF, you buy titanium.
