Hello Everyone,

T4 incomplete w/ spinal torsion. I'll be two years out in October. I've been on lyrica for about 6 months and cymbalta around a month. They have worked very well at relieving pain and muscle spasm. But all of a sudden tonight my legs are going uncontrollably crazy with the shakes. Especially my right leg. After my injury, I couldn't my right led at all. It had returned to nearly full function.

I'm kind of freaked out. Any input??

Have you checked all the usual suspects? Skin, any bruising, cuts, scrapes, pressure issues, ingrowing toenail, uti? If everything is a no then get yourself to the doctors, a sudden increase in spasms shouldn't be ignored and although it may turn out to be nothing it may also turn out to be something. Don't ignore it!

Just to add to Trinity's post.

Also check your legs for any swelling/redness. Any signs of possible fractures or sprains.

I'm not sure of your bowel or bladder management or function, but an over full bowel or a bladder infection or kidney/bladder stones could also be a possible trigger.

Regards

Simon.

Sure the spasms can always return--but like the previous good folk say, check the human issues--your body is reacting to something!!

Did you figure out what happened? Hopefully it was something simple and nothing serious! Let us know what happened.

I'm c5-6 complete for 31 years. My spasms have come and gone over the years but have become life-threatening only over the past three. I've had abdominal spasms during which my quad belly turns into six-pack abs. The problem is my diaphragm can't move and I can't breathe. I have suffocated and been hospitalized on two occasions. My lifesaver is gabapentin. 600 mg, 4x a day and if I feel an "episode" coming on, I'll chew one (nasty stuff), which provides instantaneous relief.

Hello everyone and thank you for the information. I apologize to leave a post like that and then not a reply. I have been traveling for work and spending time with my family in between. To be honest, I'm not sure what the heck happened. My legs eventually locked up. At one point, my right leg was having such bad spasms and shaking so violently that I thought I was going to have some kind of a seizure. There was about 20 minutes where I couldn't keep my balance or walk. Then things gradually let up. It wasn't until about 3AM that I was comfortable enough to go to bed. All told, the "episode" lasted about 4 hours. After a few day of feeling okay, I had to fly all the way across the states to Cali. My legs and abdomen are definitely more spasm-tastic after the flight. Resting tonight and hopefully a better day tomorrow.

Man, this SCI thing never ceases to amaze. This whole time I was thinking that this "permanent damage" would be temporary:) Yikes!
