So on July 6th I had a lump on my taint that burst. Went to primary care....he sent me to a urologist. He said I had a peri-rectal abcess. He surgically went in and drained it. It created a fistula. Doc told me that it was one of the deepest he's seen, over 4 inches deep and 2 inches wide in some places. I have had a nurse coming twice a day to pack it and dress it. I learned how to do it, and it's f*@king gross, so I can go back to work because the nurse doesn't come at 6 am. Anyhow, the doc said this could take upto 2 months to fully heal, maybe even longer.

I've been in bed/couch for the past month...and I'm going crazy. Back to work on Monday though.

Has anyone else ever had one of these? What was your experience with it?

I've had small one's off and on for many years. I find that they typically occur when I am on an antibiotic. Always in the same spot. Mine have been small. More like a quarter to half inch. I get a burning sensation in my butt when I have one. The tissue surrounding the sphyncter becomes thick a few days before they appear. Sometimes it is hard to notice if they are filled with puss, so I activiely squeeze the area if I suspect one. Generally, if I give them a squeeze they pop. Otherwise, no complications. No experience with anything as large as you describe, but I imagine it would be a pain (LOL).
