Many of you know I left my ex husband a few months ago. We have two sons, ages 12 and 5. Their Dad is a paraplegic, with chronic muscle spasms. At first there were some issues with care he needed to be providing the kids but was failing to do so. I have helped him figure out how to overcome many challenges.
The last challenge, is he needs to get the youngest bathed on a more consistent basis. He usually has the kids 4 days in a row, and when I go to get my kids, they are in the same clothes I left them in when I took them to their Dad. I ask if they have changed at all or bathed or anything. The oldest, I've been getting on his case to take initiative to just take his bath, and telling the Dad to please follow through on that.
I have been working on teaching the youngest to be more independant about the bath. The bathtub is unfortunately very difficult for their Dad to access. Our youngest can get in the tub himself, oldest can turn the water on for him, he can soap himself, oldest can give him the right amount of shampoo, the challenge is getting the shampoo rinsed out. Any suggestions or techniques I can teach the child? One idea I had is to water down the shampoo so it is easier to rinse out?

Well there is no reason why they should be in the same clothes 4 days later unless they didn't listen which it doesn't sound as though that is the case.
What about getting the 12yr old to help the 5yr old make sure it's all out without the typical big brother way that's often carried out. My son got 1/2 drowned in his big sisters' attempt to do soap their brother. ;)

The offspring , at five, should be able to get his head under the faucet to get his head rinsed off. Or simply get the older one to bath him outside with the hose.
But then again, I would just leave 'em in the trunk of the car so's they don't stink up the place.
They say children should be seen and not heard. Why on earth do we need to look at them?
