[Beautiful]

A while back my cushion had a small hole in the back, on the right side. First I took it back to the place where I got it, and all the guy did was put a black circle of tape over it. It looked/felt like electrical tape. Didn't work at all. So then I bought some of this bonding glue (I don't know what is is called), and let it dry overnight, then I stuck a piece of duct tape over it. It has worked fine. Now I have another hole, but it is so tiny, but I did the glue bonding, let it dry, then put a piece of duct tape over it. Then yesterday when I got into my chair, my butt was met with the hardness of what was under a flat cushion. I keep pumping up the cushion, and for a few hours it will stay inflated, but then it will go flat. I don't wanna keep pumping it up, because I am afraid the pressure of all the air coming out will make the hole bigger.

Any tips on what I can do to fix the hole?

my brother fixed my old Roho cushion with a bike tire repair kit. lol It worked for a time--i was ever so glad to get rid of that thing!

my advise would be to go to your doc, have him/her prescribe a new cush and ditch to roho I've found the stimulite to be light and extremely durable probably cost less too.

That's why I stick to Jay cushions (currently on a Jay Active). While gel can be punctured and leak, there is much less chance of that happening than there is for getting a hole in a Roho. I've heard Roho's are also a real pain in the ass to travel with as they deflate. I'm with Lucky on this one--ditch the Roho.

Here's a patch kit I found online. As an aside, hubby & I both hate roho cushions. Hubby's a staunch varilite user and I like my cheap foam ones. The rohos to us seem quite uncomfy and of course, you have to worry about air leaks. Hope the link helped.

I have a roho quatro, it's HUGE. Although I havn't had a holes yet, I don't recomend them to anyone.

It isn't even two years old, and I don't feel like getting a new one. It is nice on my booty, it is lightweight, and it does what I need.

But T.O., I've seen you talk about your cushion a few times, and I think after my Roho is done, I am going to look into a Jay cushion. I have a Jay wheelchair back right now.

Beautiful, I think you may have been taken to the cleaners on that Roho. Go online and see how much a Roho costs . . . . . I can't find anything for more than $300.00. That's how much my Roho Quarto High Profile (3" high cells) cost.

I've only been injured about 4 years now, and I've gone through 2 Rohos . . . both had leaks at the air valve and couldn't be fixed.
Rohos are a BIG jip. Check out the RIDE cushion, also. They're actually molded to fit your exact ass, so it may take a bit longer to receive after the initial maping (that sentence is in no way meant to signify the size of your bum--hehe) Very light weight too. I don't have one yet, but I have a friend that does, and he swears by it having even helped heal a pressure sore that his Roho couldn't.

I've got 2 Roho cushions, had them for years and only ever had a leak in one. When I bought mine they supplied repair kits plus instructions.
They are easy to repair, but it depends on where the leak is. I find tyre repair kits the best as they have patches of different sizes. If you have a cycle shop near you, just take it there and flutter your eye lashes at them...

I also sleep on a Roho mattress and can lie all night on one side without any pink marks. I can also feel all over, so don't find mine uncomfortable; its all a matter of choice and what suits us best. None of us would like to go back to the days of only one make of wheelchair to chose from. I would't tell someone Roho's are the best; go get one. I just know mines suits my needs.

Beautiful. If the Roho suits you and you find it comfortable then try and get it repaired. Have you dunked it in a tub of water to discover where the leak is?

My partner always uses puncture repair kits ment for bikes,

he put's the cushion in water to find the leak then dries and covers with a tyre patch,

work's everytime.

Yeah, good cushions are costly. My OT actually recommends getting a new cushion every 2-ish years because she said that after that, the cushion begins to lose it's shape and not 'function' the way it should, no matter how well it's taken care of. She doesn't sell cushions or anything so she has not ulterior motive in saying that, lol. I'm lucky because here in Canada, the Assistive Devices Program pays for a cushion every two years (and a new chair every 5 years--so even they recognize how important cushions are). Anyway, I love Jays. The Jay Active is heavy and it's not one of those flat low-profile cushions but I never take chances when it comes to skin protection on my butt.

I got a roho the other day.. still trying to adjust to it but its working.

All I can say about those gel cushions is they get HOT. I have a low profile Otto Bock and I can barely keep my ass under 120 degrees it seems. I guess its a personal decision when it comes to those,.. they do the work n are somewhat comfortable but if you sweat below ur injury or can feel the heat I wouldnt recommend one at all.

Anyway, I've had my roho fer about a year now. Valve stem pulles right out. The damn thing isn't attached, it's a seperate piece GLUED in. I got some shrink wrap (the kind used on electrical wiring) and the heat gun and fixes it properly and havn't had any problems since. Also found that you can blow it up with no pump if you can get your mouth on the valve stem and aren't sitting on it. got a roho inlay thing on my matress too. Works good, especially due to the fact that i mostly lay on my right side due to this thing stickin out the side of me.

Nope. On the Roho site it lists mine at $450. When I had a small pressure sore, my Roho took care of it very nicely. I heard about getting the molding done too. The place where I was recommended to visit is in Colorado, and I live on the west coast, so I was kind of like "uh...?" Ah, I mean, my Roho works for me, but if I am always having issues and getting it repaired, it would be best to get something else.

Had the same problem with my ROHO about a year ago. I called their 800 number and they sent me a loaner and had me send my cushion back for repair/replacement. Don't know which they did, but in about 10 days I had a serviceable cushion, sent back the loaner and have had no more problems for the last year

had my chair repaired last week and the tech suggested a way to get proper inflation on the ROHO that seems to work Pump the cushion to maximum expansion, then remove the pump, but leave the valve open for about 10 minutes which allows the cushion to have the same inflation as the air surrounding it. Just make sure you close the valve before you put your butt on the cushion. seemed to work for me.

How do you people get holes in you Roho cushions? Ive had mine over 5 years never had a problem.

Same here,,, the only problem I've had was tearing the whole valve thingie on the front of my Quatro. An EXTREMELY bad transfer,, more slide than hop,,

That's the only problem I've had in five years of using them,,, sent it to ROHO,, they told me it wasn't covered under warrantee since it appeared to be abuse,,,,, but sent me a new one anyway and charged only $75 (dollars for you UKers).

You guys getting the leaks,,, you don't happen to smoke, do you???

There are a lot of choices, tho,, so you have to go with what you like,,, but wouldn't it be nice if you could try them all for a month or so before deciding? They don't seem to like doing that, tho. Guess they're afraid we'll pee on them.

They are right about the putting them in the tub to find the leak/s, won't hold air if you patch the wrong place,,, or if you only fix one of the two holes.

i only tried roho once as my friend has one but didnt like them, i love my jay active they work well for me,
my friend has had a couple of leaks in his roho over the years , he takes his to a cycle repair shop and they fix it for him, hes never had any further problems once they've fixed it so perhaps a good cycle repair shop if theres one in your area might be worth a try (and whats more they didnt even charge him!)

i think its acrid farts that kill the roho!!
i tell my friend with killer farts like his hes lucky only to have had two holes in his roho over the years, i'm surprised his farts dont disintigrate the cushion completly!!

When I was getting my newest powerchair, they had an O/T come in and properly do a seating evaluation, cushion and chair. We went with the DRIVE by RIDE DESIGN. No worries of air loss as it's custom and can be molded to reduce leg spreading and you set IN, instead of ontop of the cushion. It's a more stable ride. I've been on this cushion for 8 mos. Last weekend camped in my chair overnight with no complications except fatigue. Ask your Dr. for a scrip for a seating eval because of failure of product. When my wife sat on the demo, she told us she didn't feel any pressure on her butt. Mark

I had a cushion that was molded to my butt........NOT nearly as good as the ROHO quattro I have now. I did end up getting a leak at the valve that can't be fixed but I think I'll still go with ROHO again only this time with the high profile. Yeah the MOST expensive ROHO I found was for $418.00. I'd have to say I'm in agreement that you got hosed.
