Computer / IT field is a good and can be studied remotely. I consider IT job in 3 fields, 1. Software developer, 2. Database administrators, 3. System administrators (or so called hardware engineers). There many sections in each category, if you are interested I can try help you choose your subject and training.

If you would like to try your hand at programming, the book/link below is a good place to start. It uses the Ruby programming language for it's lessons/exercises; Ruby is one of the easier, yet powerful, object oriented programming languages to learn and it's free to download/use.
