Allister,

I had a "minor" surgery on December 3, and it was 4 to 5 weeks before the extra spasm activity settled down. Yours being bladder stuff I'm guessing it will take longer. Last UTI I had it was 3 months before i was back to normal.

Dave, that Clam op sounds a bit severe?

All ops are severe - but what are the options
Pain and discomfort for a time of healing - or drug dependancy
In my case drugs were not working - SP was giving constant bladder infections (seriously) - absolutely no control of bladder function that was in danger of high pressures.
Didn't realy have a option

We all have to make personal decisions as we are all differant

Dave,
Please don't get me wrong, I know we are all different and have to make our own informed choices. I didn't really want to have the SP, but needs must. Your Clam just sounded a very unplesant procedue to go through. Your journey sofar is longer that mine. Mine began in 1983 from an RTA, and has gradually deteriated. I have fought and battled but now seem to be in a loose - loose situation. I wish none of us had to endure what our bodies and minds have gone through, and I know what you mean about Pain and discomfort for a time of healing - or drug dependancy. Drugs that only sometimes help mask the underlaying cause, and inevitably do more harm than good. Or the true saying "no pain - no gain". I'd rather not be drug dependant, Like you, tried them, didn't help.
So appologies if I offended/angered/ you . It wasn't my intention.

Actually, its kinda settled down this past few days, certainly in the discomfort of the procedure. Spazms, down to one a day, and over all I'm pleased I had it done. No way could I have carried on any longer how it was. So if anyone reading this is thinking of having a Sp cath, I'd say " so far, so good"

SORRY TO HEAR OF YOUR PROBLEM I TO HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM. I COULD NOT TOLARATE CATHING AND NONE OF THE MEDS WORKED FOR THE SPASMS. THE PRESSURE KEPT CLIMBING SO I FINALLY HAD TO TAKE A SURGICAL OPTION. CALLED A BLADDER AUGMENTATION WITH A MONTI STOMA BEING FORMED. THEY TAKE A PIECE OF SMALL BOWEL AND MAKE THE BLADDER LARGER AND MAKE A CATHERIZABLE STOMA ON THE ABDOMINAL WALL TO CATH THREW. IT IS WORKING GREAT BUT I AM WITH EVERYBODY ELSE TRY EVERYTHING YOU CAN BEFORE HAVING SURGERY. WELL HOPE THINGS ARE BETTER.

I definatly agree, Try all meds befor going down a surgical route. I did, but to no avail. At least with the SPC it can be removed and self heal if any 'normal'sensations returned. (in my dreams!)
I am glad know I have had it done, the abdoman is no longer tender, I being honest here, I'm not aware of it 99.9% of the time, and that .1% is usually when my dogs jump on me for a w/c ride!

Ha Ha Ha . . . . . . . Spoke to soon.
Damn UTI's, they sure make you shead a tear and the bladder spasm !!
It started on the 5th feb, and now starting to ease a little thanx to meds.
Going to start taking cranberry pills, as I hate cranberry juice.
But I honestly think that with UTI's - prevention is a whole better !!

Q:How do you women manage to give birth?
Bladder spasms are bad enough, contractions must be mind blowingly painfull !

Hey there, sorry I have'nt checked in sooner...It's been a crazy last couple of months schedule wise...Since we are nearly the same injury I definitely know how much of a pain in the arse bladder issues can be. Me myself, I cath every 3-5 hours and wear a diaper day/night and that seems to quell alot of the accident issues that I might have otherwise....Have you had much luck with oxybutynin?
