Hi I was wondering if anybody on here been to either Jersey or Guernsey - or any of the other channel islands?

If so how would you rate it generally for access and is it really hilly?

Also any recommended accommodation?

Thanks in advance

Steve

I haven't been to either (would love to go!), but one thing I do frequently is run a search through Flick'r (www.flickr.com) and try searching for your specific places in mind. If there are rugged cobblestones, or super hills, or whatever, these pics might help out. It really helped me out when I was researching a place in Rhode Island I wanted to see - yes, there are sidewalks going up to this mansion/museum, but the gardens (which was the point of me going) weren't paved, were very hilly, and were very spread out.

Just my two cents. :mfrlol: Enjoy your trip!

I've been to Jersey years ago; and I'm talking a long time back. Even so, it was very w/c friendly and i got on most places free.

The German underground hospital is a must; but its very cold inside.

The hotel I stayed at was fine, but its been knocked down and is now luxury homes.

I'm sure you can find info from their Tourist Board.

Sorry I cant help much, but when I flew there it wasn't even in a jet aircraft... I think Biggles was the pilot... :head_brick_wall-1:

Hi Steve,
Was in Jersey late last year and stayed in the Radisson which is on the waterfornt and only ten minutes walk or push to the main shopping area. Did not find it hilly at all in the town but maybe on the outskirts it may be. I had ordered a mobility scooter, which was waiting for me when I arrived at the hotel.
I found that a lot of the good restaurants were not wheelchair accessible which is very annoying, and some of the streets off the main street are quite narrow. Otherwise I liked Jersey a lot and would go back.

Thanks Scribbler and McTavish.

McTavish - I was looking at the Radisson, might go in th eearly part of next year. Did you fly or get the boat over there? I was thinking about taking the ferry (I live in Bournemouth so could go easily from Poole). That way we could take our car over.

Hi Steviewo,
We flew from Dublin, I think with Aer Lingus and all went smoothly. It would be good to bring the car and you could explore the island. I found the people in Jersey very friendly and eager to help.
Have a good time when you go.

We hired a car, which was at the Airport to meet us. The locals call them 'Horror Car's' as they had a H on the front and back to show they are Hire cars. Parking is difficult, as only locals can park in the town; you have to park in a car park outside. I don't know about your Blue Badge, you'd better enquire.

The road/lanes on the Island are very narrow and there's a slow speed restriction. There's masses of attractions to see including the Zoo for endangered species (They keep Greybeard there at weekends) where they have Gorilla's. There's some lovely beaches, but I don't know what the access is like these days.

I hope you have a great time and I'm sure you will. It must be over 40 years since I went, and if I could get around then, I'm sure they will have improved things in 40 years.

It was me going over that made the German's leave.. :dev:
