I had something like that happen about two months ago. I usually cath every four hours, but with this I was needing to go ever hour or two, despite not increasing my fluid intake. I thought 'UTI' at first as the urine was also quite cloudy, and I took some cranberry juice to see what would happen. After two days the cloudiness and strange feeling went away. It came back about a week ago for a day or two, and again I took cranberry juice and it cleared up. It may not work for you, but there's no harm in trying. All the best.

I had a lot of trial and error in the beginning and had to use a bedpan. Now I can usually control my urine and get to the bathroom on my wheelchair. But don't eat watermelon before bed. What a nightmare it was last night.

My bladder was constantly spazming and causing the same feeling of needing to go, even after I'd already cathed just one or two hours prior. I was finally perscribed medication for the spazms, and it calmed my bladder down.
I only offer my info, and can't say for certain this is what you need or what will fix your problem.

He has been leaking every now and then (thank god for the chucks at night), but he gets it every now and then also & usually before he caths, before bed I try to encourage him to try and pee without the cath and well... I haven't yet tried to get him to when he has that urge but I wil try.
When he does have that pain we cath right away but as soon after he says he still feels it. I will try to use cranberry drink!
Thanks bunches!
And with the trial and error, are you able to start using on your own or?

Im not able to go on my own, but I am am able to sit on the potty and have an accident, due to timing.. if that makes sense!? Problem with that is, once I leave it up to my bladder, it will ususally leave me pissing myself sporatically for hours to come.
Another thing you said,, that feeling sticking with him, even after draining the bladder... thats pretty normal for me, I always feel like I could just Go at any second.. its waiting for the LOUD signals that lets me know they are real.. its all about listening to and tuning in with his own body!

Tuning in, yes- thats the best remedy. Self-cathing is weird at first and can give you mixed sensations, even now I get them from time to time- like really needing to go when I'm lying down only to have little over 200mils in the bag. Eventually, like Ches already said, you'll get better attuned to the situation.

I was prescribed Tolterodine for the bladder spasms, and thats helped alot. Its taken away that constant desire to pee. I can not empty my bladder unaided, I use an indwelling cath with a bag at night, and use either a flip/flow valve, or leg bag during the day, depends on what I'm doing.

I go through periods here recently to where I'm going very often. But i sometimes will have a full bladder and sometimes won't. However, i'm not using catheters anymore. Well at least not like i was. But it seems like every hour I'm having to roll to the bathroom and when it's hitting it's hitting hard and quick. I did have a UTI, but this kind of stayed even afterwards. Some days it does it, some days it doesn't. And to be completely honest I drink very very little. I'm an idiot when it comes to fluids, but dangit, i'm tired of peeing so much!
I wish i had good advice to give, but on the positive side, he's feeling it, right?? I guess just some days you'll have to "go w/ tha flow". Maybe it'll work itself out. But try doing a comfortable routine, before he needs to go. Maybe that will help.
good luck, i know it's a pain.
