My husband and I are discussing live-in care 24/7. The subject is very difficult to figure out. He has a bowel routine every other day. It takes about 2 hrs. He starts at 8:30am with a supp. then on the toilet by 9. Then he is pretty much good for a while. He needs in&out caths every 4hrs. Then we like to stay up anytime from 10pm to 2am. Sometimes we are up late. I would like someone to do all his care. We are debating if we would need 2 or 3 caregivers??? How would weekends go??? I am looking for someone who is living with their spouse and has full-time care for some advise.

Hi

We have live in care. My husband has a regular P.A she stays for a month and he has a couple of others who alternate for 2 weeks.

We have had it since January. It takes a lot of getting used to and at first I hated it but it has got easier.

I'm not sure where in the world you are so I'm not sure how much help I can be. I am in the U.K and we use a spinal care agency.

pm me if you like.

When I first came home from the hospital I had a live in carer, named Pearly, for about 9 months. She stayed 5 days a week and an alternate came in the other 2. The main problem I came across was not being able to get a knowledgable alternate carer for the 2 days Pearly took off.

The other ladies were so bad that it just became more effective for my wife to do my care those 2 days instead.
I'm sure you'll figure out a solution to your problems.

Also, did your husband ever consider not drinking as much at night in order to sleep a full 8-9 hours without cathing? Just cut down on liquids a few hours before bed, and cath before you sleep. . . . . . it really works.
