I need a new bed and i am impressed with the temper-pedic bed. i hear its great for pressure sores as it doesn't have any pressure points. Anyone who had or currently has one, any feedback would be deeply appreciated.

I have one of the 8 inch high mattresses and love it. The bed does not move if someone else is in it and gets up or rolls over. It sleeps well. They have a guarantee that you try the bed for so many days and money back if you do not like it.

We've been discussing these in chat lately. Trinity recently purchased one, maybe she could fill you in on the details. I googled the bad reviews and found lots of complaints revolving around liquids that managed to make their way deep into the matrress (sponge) with no way to clean them. Something to keep in mind if you piss, spill stuff in the bed, or have kids that do.

I bought a 10" Tempur-pedic mattress a couple of years ago to ease back pain and got real relief and good quality sleep until recently.

Now, although I get a good chunk of quality sleep, I wake after around 5 hours with an aching back. Of course this could just be my condition deteriorating, but if I had to make the choice now I would probably go for a combo mattress with pocketed springing sub and memory foam top layer.

i have a tempur-med matress on an adjustable bed i always struggled to get a good nights sleep before i got it as i got so uncomfortable, i've had the tempur-med for 2yrs now and sleep really well on it, it supports me nicely and no pressure points, i'd definately replace with the same when i need to. (the tempur-med has a matress cover than can be wiped over, and is comfortable and long lasting, similar to those on hospital beds, so good for those little mishaps) only draw back i found was the price, very expensive at full price i was lucky to get mine from someone that brought it for her mum who then went into hospital and then into a nursing home and had only used it for 2 nights, so was new but at a third of the price!

I dont have a temper but use a 2 inch memory foam pad on top of a normal mattress. Just adding the pad made me get ten times better sleep. The dang thing does shift around a bit sometimes but it sleeps wonderfully!

I tried the 9" one, but felt like concrete to me......
I got a 11" Sealy memory foam mattress with adjustable frame with built in massage......
It has 3 different layers of memory foam..... Like laying on a soft sided waterbed........

I have a thin waterproof mattress cover on it. Can buy them at Sleep America, most furniture stores. The material is really thin, not plastic, so you don't end up soaked in sweat (found the plastic ones get hot!).

I recently went down the new bed route and looked at temper-pedic beds and decided that they were just too much - got one of these beds in the end with their memory foam mattress including the massage thing - really impressed with the product and service, the matress is super comfortable and doesn't mark me at all no matter how long I sleep (upto 10 hrs without turning is as far as I've gone so far) but my skin is pretty good. Might be another option for you.

We have had one for about 2 years now. We love ours. My hubby is able to stay on one side much longer without any red marks. It felt like concrete to me at first too. But once you are used to it...It is so hard to sleep on a regular mattress.

They are very expensive though. We bought the floor model and got 50% off. But now that I've had it...I know it is worth the money.

Have the temperpedic........LOVE IT!!!

When it's raining & I'm hurting like there's no tomorrow if someone got in bed with me if they didn't move ever so gingerly it'd kill me......not on the temperpedic!

We had one that we lost in hurricane Ike and replaced as it was so great. Then I was T12 complete after another accident and found it too difficult to turn over and move around in bed, so my lucky daughter got the memfoam bed. We bought one with a small amount of memfoam built in to pillowtop that has springs so I don't sink in pushing down to transfer/move in bed. It works great. We use a cheap cover that zips over the mattress for my untimely accidents. Easy to keep it clean and cheap enough to replace when necessary.

I spent an entire day in a Tempur-pedic store experimenting and with a pressure mapping system.

The pressure mapping went fairly well, even though my pelvis is extremely bony.the mattress with the best pressure relief wasn't available in the size that I wanted (king-size) for an adjustable bed. Like MeadowlarkMark, I also had a really hard time moving around on the mattress.

I've found that pressing on a pillow (not a tempur one) spreads the weight when I want to lever myself around. Your hand or elbow doesn't sink in the way it would if pressed directly against the mattress.

Thanks ches.

I have been using a roho mattress for 10 years, constantly having to air it up and worry about air leaks. Not to mention I have a queen size bed and the other side is a hard foam mat like kids use for nap time. Not too comfortable for my guest of honor :)

Wife and I got the tempur-pedic bed a bit over a year ago. I don't have a problem with it. It's a hell of a lot better than the pillow-tops for me. With the long set of hardware, the pillow-top felt like sleeping in a bowl. It caused a LOT of back pain. The only thing about the tempur-pedic is that I don't want to get up sometimes...lol. Everybody is different, so try some different things first. Also, be warned that there are several different stiffness levels of tempur-pedics. The stiffer ones are pretty solid in cold, until you lay on them for a bit (body heat makes them softer). Also, the tempur-pedic mattress can be quite a pain if you dress your lower half in bed. If you can find one, the Mattress Firm stores are great for looking at different beds. They have pretty nice showrooms and staff. They offer the waterproof covers with the tempur-pedics.

As a nifty bonus, you can get a prescription for the tempur-pedic bed from your GP and not have to pay tax...

Yup. I did. Was really easy. Called the GP, asked her to write the scrip for the tempur-pedic for back pain, took it with me to purchase the bed, and the Mattress Firm guys put it into their computer and didn't charge tax. Apparently, the tempur-pedic is seen as a medical supply when a scrip is present. From what my GP told me, other mattresses don't qualify.

Something you might want to look into is, if you have a Bed Bath and Beyond, or a Linens & Things, they have the Tempur-pedic toppers and are a LOT cheaper than the bed. Of course, I don't know if it's a s good as the whole bed but it might be worth a try. I am sure they have it on their web sites too so if you don't have those stores there, you could just get it on line. I have a thick pullow top, and got it because of the price of the Tempur-pedic, I decided to go with the pillow top. I really like my pillow top a lot! I get really good sleep and no pressure problems. Good luck!

I've found you can buy unbranded memory foam of the same quality even cheaper.  I bought several bits from eBay for various projects, including a topper for a single bed.   I do have a 10" Tempur mattress for comparison.   I can't detect any difference in the foam - except for the price.  The topper does make moving around easier because of the firmness of the under mattress.

Hey fellow Gray Bearder,

Don't be cheap. You spend 1/3rd of your life in the piece of furniture we call our beds.. Buy the real Tempurpedic for the quality and warranty. There is a difference in elasticity and pressure relieving quality in the generic memory foam. $2,000 is cheap when you consider the benefits. Hell people spend that much on a TV but we all try to buy inexpensive mattresses. Go with proven quality. It is an investment in your health. The basic 8" tempurpedic mattress is all you need, Don't fall for the fancy extra upgrades just get the Classic, or basic and put it on a platform. I have a 8 inch king-sized Tempurpedic mattress and it has improved my life. It really did reduce my night spasms and decreased my waking pain. You can even sleep on one side all night if you like. Spare no expense. I have my first pressure sore after 29 year in a chair, and it is a pain in the ass. My sore is on my right bun and was caused by my chair--not my bed--but I hate the down-time. Take care of yourself. You won't regret buying a classic Tempurpedic brand mattress. Just don't buy their "Hollywood" or "Celebrity" or other style mattresses--go with the Original, Basic or whathever they call the one with 4 inches of tempur and 4 inches of support foam.

It is a firm mattress but it conforms to feel soft. I feel luxuriant in mine and its great for sex--especially if you have a partner. LOL :) .
I'm outta here..

Scooby Gimp is absolutely correct.
I think.

Bout 10 years ago (way before my injury) I moved into a new apartment and knew I was gonna need a new mattress.
I had a chat with an old friend of mine and asked where I could get one on the cheap.
"Bone-head!" he sez, "a third of your life is spent in bed!" (even more for me, being both incredibly charming and a sexual athlete.) "yer a dope dealer, spend some money on a bed. Make it a nice experience."

Now that I'm injured, the VA helps me financially. They got me a Tempu-med. No pressure wounds as of yet and Paco, my lil' Cuban cabana boy is just plain delighted. (he can bang the maid and I sleep right through it!)

Let's get this one right!

I'd think it would be impossible to dress yourself or even just roll over easily on these mattresses.

Give me a nice firm mattress any day. I can roll over and dress easily. When I'm traveling and the hotel has a soft mattress it's really tough getting dressed in the morning.

I was just wondering if anyone knows if your insurance covers the cost of a Tempur-pedic.
