My granddaughter was visiting not long ago and happened to walk into the kitchen while I was sterilizing my caths in the microwave. Naturally, she wanted to know what they were and how they worked. Trying to be as vague as possible but still satisfy her curiosity I answered, "You know how I hurt my back and now my legs don't work very well, right?" "Yes." "Well, it's hard for me to go to the bathroom, too."

Without giving it a second's thought, she replied, "I hurt my knee once but my booty works fine."

That's one of the best things about being around children. They will say or do something every day that will amaze, confuse or embarrass you,, and always bring you back for more.

That is hilarious!

My niece is four years old and I never thought we would have a strong bond because of my injury, not being able to hold her when she was a baby and take her all the cool places aunts do. I was so worried when she was born. But my sister would lay her next to me and put her in my lap as she got older (obviously with other people around and holding her for me).

As she got older and started learning how to crawl/walk, I was her apparatus to help her self pull up and then I became the jungle gym, she learned to climb up my chair and get in my lap on her own. She adapted to my life.

Long story short she is now in that "why" and "what" stage... she finally asked "aunt ang, why are you in that chair?" This was a shock because it was out of nowhere and I didn't really know how to answer it. I didn't want to say "well your mom was driving and I hurt my neck LOL". So I just told her "I hurt my neck a long time ago and now this is how I get around." Needless to say she went back home (to Houston) and is very bothered and talks about my chair to my sister a lot. The last conversation was...

my niece: mommy, when we get a McDonald's with grandma and aunt ang we don't go inside..."

my sister: PAUSE! Oh really?

My niece: yeah, she's not walking right now... slight pause... because she hasn't taken lessons.

LOL my sister said she had the most serious face. My nephew will be turning 2 pretty soon and he recently learned how to crawl up into my lap as well... they keep me going! Now they fight over who is going to sit in my lap.

I love it!

My granddaughter is always suddenly "very tired" when ever we go anywhere and needs to ride on grampa's lap. I'm okay with that, but then she started pimpin' me out to her friends for rides.

Haha, my niece always sit in my lap wherever we go. She hasn't pimped me out yet... she is still territorial with that.

Another funny story, my sister took her to church and she got to go to the full service because they were running late. My sister was taking her to their seats down the aisle and my niece noticed an older gentleman in the wheelchair section. Without hesitation she ran up to him and tried to climb up to set in his lap. My sister quickly grabbed her and told her not to do that... her response "But aunt ang lets me" the older man gave a huge smile.
