My back side is getting worse and worse.
I now have only skin and bone on my butt and after sitting up for only two hours my bum starts getting quite red.
They are now trying me on the ride cushion, but I don't have high hopes for it.
My therapist told me to stay away from flap surgery, but I don't want to spend the rest of my life in bed.
Do any of you out there know of any better cushions for quads, who have very little padding?

Well i cant tell you about the cushion.
But i can tell you about flap surgury its really not worth it ive had it twice it has like a 80-85% chance of getting another sore in the same place.
Im on bed rest rite now and have been for the last 3 months. i Had the flap surgury but in under a week i developed a blod clot witch busted under my stitches and opened it rite back up.
the best thing to do is use a wound vac as they make the healing process faster then doing wound care. And you wont have to worry as much about getting another sore there as you would be with the flap. Please listen to this cause in im 18 in been on bed rest this long the flap IS NOT WORTH IT cause in the long run you will be in bed alot longer then just haveing it heal the natural way.

Hope everything gets better for you

There are two cushions, the lower risk Ride cushion and the Ride custom cushion. I actually know quite a few people who are using the Ride custom cushion, including two quads on my rugby team, and both say they like it. I almost went with the Ride custom cushion when I got my new chair earlier this chair because my OT said it was awesome but decided to stick with Jay. I've only heard good things about the Ride cushions and also the new Ride custom backs (a quad on my rugby team just got one and he likes it, he said).

I know a para who's about 270lbs. (80lbs overweight), who had a pressure sore on his butt. He was using the high profile Roho before. Then his therapist got him a Ride Cushion, and he said it finally healed. I'm sure the wound vac had something to do with it, but it wasn't healing with the Roho.

I've only heard good things about the Ride cushions, and am considering it for my next purchase.

I have had flap surgery and used the wound vac, both which are healed. One I got sitting on a Roho, flat on one side, not knowingly. I got a new chair and was fitted for a custom RIDE and no troubles. I've been on it for 8 mos, even camped out in my chair overnight. I can sit on this cushion for 14 hours at a time with fewer pressure reliefs. When my wife sat on it during my fitting, she didn't feel the pressures of sitting, and she's AB. Highly reccomend the product. Mark

Hello,
Sorry to hear that the flap surgery turned out so horribly for you.
I have been a quad for a long time, and I am having a lot more problems than I used to.
I am so skinny now, that I don't even think that flap surgery is an option for me. So I will try different cushions and be in bed a lot.
Wishing you the best, Randall.

you should to be on a high carb & protein diet to build fat up on your butt & create your own padding first..after being in your exact position, I've found the Roho to be the best-after trialling allot of alternatives.
Good luck.
