So I need a new mattress and I know this has already been under discussion, but it has been some time. So what are you using and what are your suggestions?

I'd love a memory foam! I'm currently in desperate need of a mattress... haven't had money to buy a new one yet.

What kind of memory foam? Are you talking about a memory foam mattress or a topper? Does it really matter which one you get?

I have a box spring matress, and ended up buying a 2'' thick memory foam topper for it after my SCI. It's worked fine for me, but the next matress I'm buying will have the memory foam top already on the matress.

I've never tried a total memory foam one, but couldn't justify spending $8-10,000.00 on it.

I Have a Tempurpedic Mattress, Queen sized. I bought it a couple years ago and I paid around $2000 for it, they have financing options if the initial cost is too much. It's been worth it.

I have a 25cm deep memory foam mattress which is sprung underneath. I love it and it was half price so very cheap!

I have a Tempur-Pedic Mattress, (two actually*) for the first few months it was fantastic...for the first time in years I slept though the night. Now, it doesn't matter what I sleep on I cannot get comfortable. They do cost big $$ - I know that they offer 90 days to try the beds, however I do not know of anyone who has returned one - and whether or not they had any trouble doing so. (You might want to do a BBB inquiry on your local store). These beds are sold on commission and the commission must be huge (when I just showed an interest in one; the local Sleep Country salesperson called me every other night until I purchased one). I would HIGHLY recommend getting the soil-proof cover (appx $85) before you ever sleep on one as the bed is a big sponge and any accidents or spills are IMPOSSIBLE to clean up. The spoil proof cover works incredibly, I had a pet pee on the bed and the sheet stopped any urine from passing thru.

This is also a very good time of the year to purchase one, they always seem to be on sale in the fall - Also, you can negotiate the price, they don't want too, but if you turn around and start to walk out..they can miraculously make a better deal. (Sometimes they have "used" ones for sale, I guess this must be the 90 days that were returned, although some places it is illegal to sell a used mattress)

(* I bought a second one for my teenage daughter to hopefully ensure she does not have spinal issues later in life)

my bed is a pillow top on one side only so it's not too high. however, it can't be flipped. is it hard to dress in bed with memory foam? just asking. i have to wake up to pee a couple of times during the night so that gets me to change positions.
hi fellow gimps! i'm a c 6/7 quad and have been injured since 1986. i was in a roll over hydroplane accident and it took hours for the paramedics to get me out of the car in the pouring rain. that definately wasn't my day. but alas life goes on!

I have a foam mattress and a 3 or 4 inch gel mattress on top and its great. I've never had any sores with it but i did come home with a sore that I couldnt get rid of in the hospital or rehab with air mattresses but it was gone in no time with the gel. The tag reads " DRIVE Medical Design & Manufacturing" in New york. I dont know if you turn at night or not but the only reason I do is because I get stiff and really start hurting if I dont but I have stayed still for at least 6 hrs with no problems with sores and Im sure I could all night. Medicaid paid for mine so I dont know any prices but if you can get 1 i would highly highly recommend it, well all you would really need is the gel but make sure you get a full layer of gel on top without foam with it. I hope this helps and trust me they are the best so look into it.

I have a waterbed. The old fashioned kind, that wobbles when you move. The wobbling isn't too bad either but transfering out can be a bit difficult. I keep a flat board there and slide down into my chair that way. If you go the route of a waterbed it is fantastic for no pressure happens, if you are allergic to latex memory foam is bad bad bad, and a traditional mattress hurt too much so I never slept.

If you do this and buy a frame (the good old traditional hulking kind) go for one with drawers so that you can have the bed a lot lower. Mine is almost even with the seat of my chair when I slide out. On days when I can still stand I also can just roll out of bed but those aren't very common.

Added bonuses, cool in summer if you turn off the heater, warm in winter with the heater. Think a giant heating pad. I recommend a full wrap around pad with or without pets. Also Waterbeds are better for bladder accidents, you can just wipe the mattress clean with vinyl cleaning spray.
