I have been in a chair for 30 years after contracting Trasverse mylitis,I am incomplete et T4 and have always emptied my bladder by tapping with no problems. In the last 12 months I keep getting UTI'S and I had a test to see if I was emptying my bladder and my uroligist said my volume after emptying was 30ml which is fine.I have a pea size stone in my right kidney which is very deep and he said that would not be the cause but is going to remove it anyway.I take one antibiotic a day to prevent the infections but if I do not take it for one day my urine starts becoming cloudy.I also take cranberry capsuals and D-Mannose but without the one antibiotic once a day I get a full blown UTI straight away,I would be greatfull for any responce .....................

I am t7 from transverse myelitis, been in the chair 2 years. I have a supra pubic catheter.
I wonder why you describe cloudy urine as a full blown UTI. Unless you have symptoms, eg: fever, chills, vomiting etc, the SCI specialists say it's just colonisation of bacteria in your urine and does not require treatment. They do not recommend prophylactic use of antibiotics as you develop resistant strains of bugs.
Take Vitamin C tabs 1000mg twice daily, it will help keep you and your urine healthy.

Hi,

I wanted to ask some advice too please. I'm going to get some D-Mannose (I'd never heard of it before) but I've always thought cranberry juice/tablets were good to prevent UTIs. I went to see the dr the other day and her words were 'that does nothing'. Is she talking complete rubbish? It wouldn't be the first time! :mfrlol:

Hi Avocado Baby

I started taking D-Mannose on 21 Oct ... and it works for me .. I have had a troublesome year and was contemplating a regular use of anti biotics
I take my vits and cranberry juice in the morning and D-M just befor bed
Dont take D-M with cranberry juice and the advise is D-M only works against e-coli

Ragersilver ...........
