Hi all,
I've looked at a dermatome map and I understand how to read it. When the weather gets cold, I have severe pain down the right side of my right leg about halfway between the knee and the ankle.

According to the dermatome map, this area is controlled by S1. I understand that a SCI in the neck controls everything below the level of injury. I'm just puzzled why I hurt most in that particular place when my injury is C3-7.

Any ideas?

I had similar pain, only random and didn't seem to be triggered by anything other than sitting for long periods without changing positions. My Chiropractor told me some of his law enforcement patients have it from their gun belts resting on the nerve that runs down the outside of the hip (not sure which one that is - sorry). Since I've been going to the Chiropractor I haven't had it.

Why a quad would have it is beyond my ability to even speculate. I'm not sure how practical this is for you but you may want to try laying down, or at least, getting out of your chair when it bothers you.

I have an answer and now I know why it didn't make any sense. I found an MRI report on my lower back done a few years ago and I've got a bulged disc at S1 hitting the nerve root.

I was about to ask a similar question, I have been suffering a severe increase in back pain and have only just discovered that the cause is Degenerative Disc Disease BELOW the level of my injury but the pain is referred above

I've always been confused about pain
Those sensory nerves were cut a long time ago
Nerve growth pain also stopped long ago
Still those shooting pains and ache remain

Then I found the answer, alchohol and pot
Pot doesn't kill pain .. but it does relax the body

Sorry abot the touch of humour .. but pains are gonna be there for the rest of our existance
It's up to me to come to terms with mine .. and you with yours
