Hey,
At the moment i have an RGK with e motion wheels, but im looking to get a new chair and either replace my e motions or try something different. I need the extra power that i get from the wheels, but was wondering if anyone had any recomendations??

I have looked at the cyclone tailwind and contacted them for more info but so far have heard nothing back. Has anyone had/have one that recommends it or warn me off it.

Any help would be great!!
Jen xx

I tested an Iglide, which is now the tailwind, and thought it was the best of the three power assist systems. Since it was discontinued I purchased the quickie (yamaha) xtenders. I had to buy a used one on ebay as Medicare wouldn't preapprove. The xtenders are good, but I think tailwind would get me up larger hills with less effort. Batteries are outrageously overpriced & I have not had luck rebuilding one. Emotion has a new wheel with lithium ion batteries that is supposed to be better than old system. There are existing threads on power assist worth looking at, but perhaps it's time to start a new one with new products out there & peoples experience with battery life & cost.

Check out the Tailwind. It is a great power assist chair. It will make youtr e-motions seem like relics.

my understanding is that they are still in production, but there is a litigation issue between the manufacturer and johnson n johnson-the motor manufacturer. i waited 4 bloody months on a demo before someone gave me a straight answer. :muahaha: They SHOULD be available after that.

I have also enquired about the Tailwind, cyclone are up in my area,Inverness/Elgin, this week. When I heard the cost it dampened my interest .

Basic is £5,999.00 and not suitable for disabled loading across chest,i.e. meaning you would need assistance, unless you have reasonable use of your legs.
Have no brochures but was sent a video clip which shows its ability to move over rough terrain quite impressive. I suggest you give Dave Hawkins a ring 011964623881 or have a look at this web site: http://www.cyclonemo...l/tailwind.html trust this is of help.

Don't buy emotions again!! ask me for more info..........................

The Tailwind looks fantastic. I've spoken to my local dealer and he is a nice guy and assures me they are aware of the situation and it will be sorted soon!??! hmmmm

Assisted wheels!

Well my take is ............ if you need assisted wheels your a high level?? generalising I know!

I use an RGK lightweight wheelchair with Spinergy wheels. Jump in car. Pull wheels off and put them on back seat. Lift frame across me onto passsenger seat. off I go!

Assisted chair. Sadly or obviously? Due to the make up of being power assisted. I can't see how it will be possible to do this with any powered chair. I tried with emotions!! Succeeded but was exhausted. Took me an eternity and well wasn't practical.

If you have an estate or I guess any car to an extent.

Jump in car in normal chair. Get out go to boot. pull Tailwind, etc out. Transfer across chair to chair leaning on boot/tailgate. Chuck lightweight chair in boot.

I'm a C5/6 tetra and am working on these lines.

Or .. get to parking place. look for some big strapp;ing guy. Say "excuse me" and get them to lift "heavy" chair out.

Food for thought there!

I use emotion wheels and drive a small car. Look at the video at the end of my review about emotion wheels: http://www.adaptado....nt/view/143/32/

I've owned the iglide, tried the emotions and own a set of extender. The iglide (now the tailwind) has lots more smarts but i found it less intuitive. For example if you came up to a table and tried to use the table to stop the iglide would sense the resistence and increase the assist. This could (and did) mean you get squashed into the table. For me the extenders are much more "natural", its just like you are 3x stronger, nothing fancy, just makes you stronger. Batteries are expensive and last maybe 18months. I've imported one battery direct from japan at about half the cost and had one repacked at cheaper again. Other issues for me was the annoying 3min power off for the iglide (extender is 5, still to quick) and hard to reach on/off on the emotions.
