OK, I switched pain management doctors because my last one just wanted to shove morphine down my mouth and after 2 years, it was clear this was not the answer. New doctor put me on fentinal patches (50's) that work for a day, but the next 48 hours suck. He wanted me to research Opana and let him know what I think. Why can't doctors just do what they think is best? Why don't they talk to other doctors that deal with SCI patients. My last doctor went to Stanford and Harvard and although he was just morphine this and morphine that, don't you think he had a peer that might have other ideas how to treat us? I want to believe my new doctor wants to help me, is he doing so by giving me Opana instead of other opiates. I have never abused my meds, is that the only way to get rid of the pain?

I'm still trying to find something, myself. The last guy used epidural shots of corticosteriods,,, didn't see any relief at all. That was the only therapy he offered,,,, specialization taken to an extreme, I guess. He din't even have a suggestion on where to go from there. He said that his approach was a last resort for many,,, I hope he's wrong.

As of now, I still take gabapentin for the pinching/burning pain,,, and it does take the edge off,,, but for the stabbing stuff it has no effect at all. I'm trying to stay away from opiates myself,,, is that what Opana is?? Guess I'll google it myself.

i do take lyrica as well. currently 600mg. what are other people taking?

it gets rid of the crushing stabbing pain and leaves me with the burning pain, which still sucks.
