Hi
Just thinking about going to France (Chambery). I was looking at flying into lyon airport, there is a possiblity to use trains etc but i will be travelling alone and dont really want the hassel, so i was wondering about hiring a car.

How does hiring a car with hand controls work, is it possible to hire a car with controls? if so how do i go about it?

I had difficulty hiring an automatic even without Hand Controls at Lyon last year! It might just have been my experience but I got the impression tyat the French didnt do them!

Hire companies generally in Europe seem to be reluctant. I have the same problem in Spain. The big companies supposedly have adapted vehicles, but I'm sure that they are in the dearest categories. They will, however do autos if warned and you could use portable hand controls.

You can buy portable hand controls , that way all you might need is an automatic car.

I have thought of buying a set of LYNX hand controls but feel pretty sure they would invalidate your rental insurance.
