I am on Incapacity Benefit and DLA at the moment but have been told that I can get Income Support at the same time is this true?

I do not want to find myself worse off financially any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.
If I fall out of my wheelchair in the woods would anybody hear me?

I think it's means tested, you're not allowed to have more than £8k in savings or something like that...

yes you can claim both. Obviously it depends on your income. We get wait for it, 75p a week income support but its a gateway benefit so basically it opens up a load more for you that you will get automatically. So apply straight away, dont delay they can only say no but you wont lose anything.

P

There is a site called entitledto.co.uk that gives a benefit check programme.

You enter all your details and it tells you your entitlement..

good luck

Income Support has a disability premium component. If your are on Incapacity Benefit you can claim for that which as stated opens the doors to other benefits. I get IB and a princely £ 4.00 IS. I was initially wrongly advised 2 years ago by a council benefits advisor and only claimed IB, but then it became clear that I needed IS in order to claim the mortage interest relieve.

Call the DWP and claim your bit if IS.

bobm thanks for the website I will check it out.

I am not entitled to Income Support as I have more money than the law says I need to live on.

Looking back I did get incapacity benefit and income support at the same time. I had forgotten this was because when I first started to get I.B. it did not come to the amount the government says I need to live on.

Nothing ventured nothing gained anyone out there in doubt as to what they are entitled to should look at direct.gov.uk or call their local citizens advice bureau.

was worth a try though pikey.
i aparently have an income of 60p a month more than the government say i need to live on!! so i cant get is either!!
best of it is if i had 61p a month less coming in then i'd get free dental treatment, free eye check free glasses etc etc yet as i get 60p a month more than what they say that suposidly makes me able to afford to pay out for the above so having £7.20 a year more than allowed means i can afford to pay £25 twice a year for dental check up, not to meantion up to £250 for a replacement crown when needed! or £60 odd for fillings, then theres eye checks and glasses etc, by the time i've paid out on these that in reality puts me on an income of much less than income support allows, but they dont take that into consideration, so basically if your income is just over the amount allowed , you actually end up much worse off than those that get income support!! welcome to the great british benefits system!! at least my gp ensures i get free prescriptions!!
it wasnt me, i didnt do it, no one saw me so they cant prove a thing!

Sorry Allister, but I just laughed aloud when I read the above. When I first read it yesterday I thought you were referring to BP (British Petroleum) shares. I thought it was odd that they should go up in value given the oil spill crisis in the US. When I read it again today I realised you were referring to your blood pressure! :drooldrip: Hope you're feeling better.
Clive

To all our US members - I hope the mess is cleared up before too much damage occurs.
