So now my premiums are over $300 per month and I don't qualify for Medicare until April 2011. Can anyone recommend a health insurance plan that I can afford on SSID?

Good luck, Kwag. We need a LOT of it when we fall between the cracks.

Have you contacted DHS to see if they can get Medicaid for you while you are waiting for the Medicare to kick in?

Absolutely sir!

What I did was:

Go out to my closest depressed neighborhood and purchase a good cheap hand gun.
Not only does this get me my required meds but it get me the dang things on time, no muss no fuss.
It also entitles me to large scale cash advances when ever I need them. No paperwork or red tape etc. EVER!

And as a morbidly obese long haired jeezuz lookin' fool with glasses in a wheelchair, I blend right in no matter where I go.
Which means I'm immune to any repercussions for crimes I may commit. Not that I ever would, of course.

Do you work on commission, E-Dog. There's a whole bunch of :) that you could sort for me. Quick trip across the pond and a few "chats" with some english beaurocrats?

I applied for Medicaid when I applied for SSDI and didn't get it because I made too much money on unemployment. My disability is more than my unemployment, so I haven't checked on that. Maybe I should give them a call. Thx.

Thought of something else for you to try, depending on who your Congressman is, call the office to see if they can look into some way to get you covered quickly.....if it's Sander Levin, don't bother...his office is useless....you can also call Senator Stabenow's office, alot of times politicians can introduce a quick bill to help a constituent, and they often like to solve an individual's problems - makes them feel like they are doing something..... Also contact your State Senator and Rep, to see if there is anything at the state level they can put in place. Do the same with your county Commissioner.....the more connected people looking for a solution for you the better.....

Good luck and let us know how you are doing with solving this.

Hey E-dog.....took me awhile to get your perverse sense of humor....you are definately one of a kind!

Update: I'm working on the DHS angle. It appears that being on SSDI opens some doors and I may be entitled to either financial help with my premiums or Medicaid. I just have to get through the paper work. The turn-around time is 90 days, so it will be a while before I hear any more. I think I'll hold off on calling the politicians until I get a decision from DHS (usually the first question they ask is if I've applied).

I'm curious are you receiving SSI too? No luck with getting back into the work force? Just wanted to make sure you knew also that as a SSDI recipient you can work for nine months and make whatever you can (this is called a Trial Work Period). After that if you go over SGA which is $1000 in 010 you'll lose benefits.
