To those of you who have had flap surgery...They're telling me I'll have to be completely flat without even a pillow for six weeks. I won't even be able to feed myself. How did you get through it. My injury was six months ago and up until now I haven't been depressed or angry about the whole SCI. Now I'm really depressed.

spouse has 2 flap surgery back to back...story begins 22 mths of wound care specialists then to Vet hopital for flap, which went wee, then the physical therapist pulled him off mat with a belt around his waist (he man theory) up he went over to chair. In the process he cracked 4 ribs and bruised his now almosty healed flap. He was fortunate to be on sand bed for 21 days straight, very heavily drugged so as no movement. Well he made it went home and 3 weeks later started bleeding profusely. took 2 days to get him to palo alto va left left him in ER as abandonment. they kept him couple weeks went back home for 5 months, again with wound care nurses, THEN started the whole bed process again...I could not get out fast enough.

how do you do it? for him flat on his back floating hand fed very little (due to drugs) a quad isn't able to go on stomach just back...he made it very depressed and angered because of neglect..he could tell you how many tiles were in ceiling. after seeing many vets (51 beds sci) you learn to b e grateful after seeing others worse...just keep your spasms down which at this time is higher..Mike was on a vac-pump for 22 months off and on which is extremely uncomfrotable and awkward, this stopped any outtings. patience and heavy muscle relaxers helped him get through and the thought of being able to venture out helped him. I think seeing the young vets wandering around with extreme TBI you are grateful, his body may be broken but not his mind
or willpower, these kids don't have a lightbulb and will probably be shoved in a home with no one,,,no we don't have it bad

Where is your wound?? Why are they telling you you cannot have a pillow?? More details please and I will be glad to provide you with information. I have had 2 and my Dallas surgeon was way better than my Houston surgeon!

I would highly recommend him if you haven't had surgery yet!
