I'm shortly moving in to a house after living in a flat for 10 years which had a door entry system. Being in a wheelchair and upstairs when the door goes obviously will cause problems.

I'm looking for a product which allows remote unlocking of my front door via a wireless phone, video controller or several hard wired access points. If this system can incorporate a fingerprint, keypad or fob key front door lock it would be even better.

Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

cheers.

That's quite a shopping list. There is plenty out there, but are you happy to throw money at it and looking for a recommendation for a good product or trying to do this on a shoestring and so needing ways to solve a problem with more ingenuity and less finesse?

If you have one foot in the past, and one foot in the future, you are probably peeing on today

Well, we just purchased a secure keybox and mounted it outside by the door. It has a cylinder lock with a 4-digit code that can easily be changed. When Tom wasn't able to get up and someone had to get in, they called him and he just gave them the code so could they open the box and use the key. Then they just let themselves out, put the key back in the box, and spun the cylinder. If it's someone he doesn't want to have access again, he changes the code as soon as he is able.

I found his keybox at Home Depot; sorry, I don't know your location so I don't know what store to recommend.

If you want something more hi-tech, try smarthome.com. I found a number of systems that work independently or with X-10 technology.

Hope this helps - you sound like you already know a lot about these systems so I hope what I offered wasn't too elementary.

Hi Fozzylou,
Where are you from?
Systems vary from country to country. You may get more appropriate advice if you put your location in your profile.

My budget is £200-£300 but can be stretched a bit more if necessary.. Basically I have a live-in carer but there are many occassions when i need to open the door myself to the postman for example. Also being able to open the front door myself without using a key. Specific product recommendations would be great.

I got a Logisty system fitted when I had my bungalow's loft converted. It's not very cheap, but wireless and easy to fit. I bought an extra handset so that I could keep one by the settee in case someone turns up when I'm chilling.
TLC were the cheapest when I got mine about a year ago: TLC Direct / Logisty

You seem to be looking for a lot. Is this for you to open to allow people in?

I live in Notts and was lucky enough to get a system on the NHS that allows me to do many things in my home; lights, TV etc. I can speak from 3 different rooms, via an intercom to people outside my door and either let them in, or tell them to b###er off. Its a wireless system from RSL Steeper. Try this Link.

Good luck
