I had suffered from pretty severe spasm since my injury, to an extent where even pushing around come afternoon was a real chore. I couldn't even get my legs on to the bed of a night time. The spasms were very very restrictive on my life. Last year I had an Intrathecal Baclofen Pump implanted with much success. I was loosened up so much that I was able to start driving and playing rugby and getting about pretty much as I wished.

Fast forward to now and the pump is still working great but as the day goes on, I get much tighter... to a point that night time outings were pretty unenjoyable (add to dictionary! lol).

On Monday I got a new Easystand Evolv XT (I'm 6'5" so the bigger one was needed). I managed to get it with some funding that I managed to dig up and use. After the first couple of days of having it, I have to say I am blown away. The first afternoon I stood up for around and hour and this was at about 5:30 in the afternoon, a time of day that things kind of started to get a bit harder. When I got down I was shocked... my abs weren't fighting me and my legs were dangling and I could swing them about to wherever I wanted them to be without them snapping straight and shaking violently. I was nice and loose for the rest of the night and was probably more relaxed than I had been in...well.. a loooong time.

I jumped in again today, only for around half and hour around lunchtime and again, felt great when I got out. Then tonight I started to feel a little tight around 8pm so I got in just for 20 minutes and now I feel great again.

I guess my hip flexers are getting a nice stretch, along with my abs, so the spasms they usually have aren't going on to trigger my legs. I'm not trying to say that this standing would be the solution for anyone that suffers from bad spasm.....,

....but if you do suffer from spasm and you haven't tried standing please hunt down a way you can try it out...

If you have to go to a rehab centre to try a standing frame out, or if you have the money to just snap one up, please try, because it might just be the answer you are looking for.

Good luck all,

Adam

Very cool. Happy for you.
Look! It's a snail! It's a sloth! Able to creep short distances before lunch!

believe it or not Medicaid paid 100% for my easystand evolv glider. They approved it in 2 weeks, too. Unbelievable, I know. I got it two weeks ago. It has been great for workout, stretch, range of motion, spasms and particularly CLONUS (which I ABHOR and refer to as the "sewing machine legs")

Adam, I can't exactly 'hop in and out' of the stander yet so I only do it once a day for 40 minutes. The muscle problems go away for a couple hours.

It is also helping big time with building up weak/low blood pressure.

I think it aides in digestion as well, as sometimes I feel a sudden urge...

oh by the way, adam, or anyone that stands, does it hurt your feet soles? I find standing hurts my feet (pressure, circulation issue?)

I'm really glad I'm not the only one who feels like that.... I would assume it would be a pressure issue...
