I dont know about apartments, but i stayed in a great hotel called Las Dalias in Los Christianos. Its part of the Iberostar group. Might be worth a look, it was 4star accomodation.

I went to Tenerife in the summer just gone - Stayed in the Volcano hotel in Playa de las Americas which was excellent - No pool hoist if you need one (I don't) - otherwise adaptions were excellent. I hired shower chair from a local company LeRo who also do adapted van transfers and excursions. (actually this was all taken care of by travel agent)
Hotel wasn't cheap - I booked thro accessible travel who were great and everything was done thro them - they do do self catering apts which the people we spoke to were very happy with and I think are probably more heavily adapted than the standard hotels. These days booking thro a bonded travel agent is a good idea if you want any sort of protection - doing everything independently will be cheaper but if something goes wrong then you're pretty much stuffed.

thanks a lot russ1. I will look into both sites and hopefully find something suitable. Great to know that we don't actually need to take the shower chair along, too.
Merry Xmas everyone ;)

I am back tanned and relaxed and thought I would let you know how I got on in Tenerife. We stayed in an appartment in the South of Tenerife which was not the best but being a paraplegic I managed. My friend found the long ramps leading up to the appartment a bit of a struggle so unless your fit make sure you book a place on the sea front.
For the airport transfers I used Orange Badge www.orangebadge.com 50 euros for the both of us and we had no problems so I would recommend. I would not suggest taking the trip with them round the island as I was told although you see lots when you get out not much is wheelchair frendly. Just to make life easy Tenerife being on a volcano so everything from the sea front is up hill Servita i taxis have a Merc Vito which has room for two (easier if one can transfer onto a normal seat) Tel: 922 74 75 11 or call Goyo 699393982 he owns the van.
Hire a scooter or electric chair if you find pushing difficult again Orange Badge offer these and Commodes, hoists, walkers take a look at their site. Ask for a deal I am sure you would get one if using them for transfers.
Tenerife Nursing & Care S.L. have qualified nurses who can come out and help 15 euro's for the first hour and then 10 euros for any other hours needed. My freind needed help and an English speaking nurse came round to help him. www.tenerifenursingandcare.com 0034922396388 or mobile 639977334 ask for Bob he is the owner..
Please feel free to contact me if you have any more questions.
