Are There Groups Out There? Meeting people in Omaha

My boyfriend Jay and I are wondering if theres a link somewhere on this website for groups of people in the SCI community that get together and hang out or do other activites like going out places...whatever.
Jays been in the chair for 26 years. He just moved up here to the Omaha area so we could be closer and get closer to work.
We thought it would be nice to meet other people. We dont really know any other couple or single people for the matter. Love to meet ya!
Hope to hear from ya

I had no idea. I thought it was just one big giant farm with cows n' wheat and stuff.
Wow, no wonder you guys are looking for a little action, ya must be dying of boredom.
And judging by the veritable cornucopia of replies you've gotten so far it would appear the gimps in your area aren't terribly keen on socializing.
Seems most gimps are the rugged individualist types. Loners if you will, who tend to travel within the depths of profound thought and conscious introspection.
Hell that's what I do. Hang out,. get loaded an' think about stuff. For example. Did you know that a Calathumpian mountain slug has more mucous glands than any other living creature on this planet? It's a fact. Looked it up on the internet. Some scientific mucous journal I found. Can't remember the name of it but it sure was scientific with all kinds of big words an' stuff.
Anyway. If ya ever get out to the coast look me up. I'll hang out with you guys, but you're buyin' dinner. I think that's only fair cause I can be really entertaining when I wanna be. That and I ain't got a whole lotta money these days what with the price of crack goin' through the roof an' all.
Let me know,
E-dog
I will nevah, EVAH take a pinch from a greasy muddahf*@kah like you!

Let me know if this is any help, and if there's any other info you would like. This town has a lot of good live music, and that's possibly the most interesting thing around here, in my opinion.

I've been in Omaha most my life and I do like it here and know there are plenty of things to do. Trouble is, finding things to do that's handicap accesible. Or even hanging with people who have handicap accesible houses. But maybe we can find events and meet people through that Association you gave us.
I will contact the association. In the mean time, Jay has been trying to heal a pressure sore himself. Right now, with a wound vac, so we are able to get out. But he may be going in for flap surgery here soon, so he may be in bed rest for awhile after that.
It would be cool if we could meet up with ya sometime. I know you said you dont get out much because of your sore, but if you can get out some time, let us know. This is a very new world for me, as I only met Jay earlier this year. I didnt know much about SCI's and so on. I try to learn more about it by getting on this website and thought it would be great for us to meet new people here since Jay is new to this town.
Thanks again for your reply, it really helps. And looks like we have some things in common (your interests on your profile)
Stay cool and let me know if you'd like to get out and meet.

Do you mean people actually live in Nebraska? Really, you really want to ask this question? My 12 year old can think of more obviously stupid questions than this.
I had no idea. That’s obvious you don’t. I thought it was just one big giant farm with cows n' wheat and stuff. Yes, there are a lot of farms. Is that supposed to make us feel inferior to you or anyone living in California?
Wow, no wonder you guys are looking for a little action, ya must be dying of boredom. That comment is so juvenile and ignorant, I cant even think of a reply.
And judging by the veritable cornucopia of replies you've gotten so Whoa!!! Those are some really really BIG words coming from such a smart guy who lives in such a cool place! I’m definitely by far so much lower on the social and educational scale as you!! far it would appear the gimps in your area aren't terribly keen on socializing. Yep, that’s right. That exactly what that means.
Seems most gimps are the rugged individualist types. Wow, youre such a deep thinker. Oh do go on, lets here more!!! Your thoughts are so profound and intellectually WAY ahead of Nebraskans time!! Loners if you will, who tend to travel within the depths of profound thought and conscious introspection. Oooooh, there you go again, showing off your smarts!!
Hell that's what I do. So good at it e-dog. Hang out,. get loaded an' think about stuff. For example. Did you know that a Calathumpian mountain slug has more mucous glands than any other living creature on this planet? What, did you happen to find one of these on your cojones? b] It's a fact. Looked it up on the internet. Some scientific mucous journal I found. Can't remember the name of it but it sure was scientific with all kinds of big words an' stuff. I don’t know if I could keep up with that and the other 1.7 million of us.
Anyway. If ya ever get out to the coast look me up. I'll hang out with you guys, No thanks but you're buyin' dinner. Looks like you could eat more than I can afford. I think that's only fair cause I can be really entertaining when I wanna be. You seem pretty lame, typical and cliché to me. That and I ain't got a whole lotta money these days what with the price of crack goin' through the roof an' all. Why don’t you look into Heroin?
I have no sympathy for those who TRY to make others feel lesser
Let me know, [b]Yeah…I’ll pass
Have a good day...I know I will!!

I certainly had no intention of hurting you at the time I wrote my reply. Fact is, one of the nicest young ladies I've ever met was from Omaha.
Seems she was quite a bit different than you though. She was a very bright young lady with a terrific sense of humor.
Far be it from me to make you feel lesser than. Not quite as sharp as. Or lacking in any other way. Seems you've managed to do that all by yourself.
I'm sure Omaha comma Nebraska is a beautiful, vibrant City with a highly cultured, cosmopolitan atmosphere once you manage to dig the cow shit out of the treads of your wheelchair tires.
Thanx so much for your reply. Allow me to make one suggestion. If you ever meet a schizophrenic with multiple personalities see if he would be so kind as to sell you one.
I apologize for any offense, as it was certainly unintentional.

You obviously haven't got to know much about the regulars on this site or you'd have realised that E-Dog often tries to introduce a little humour. His posts are frequently very funny and often display an astute knowledge of human nature. They are never malicious. He certainly does not deserve your vitriolic and spiteful response. Fortunately you will find few messages like yours within this forum.
Clearly it it was your intention to show off your ability to put someone down, but you chose to pick on the wrong person and the wrong place in which to do it. When you choose to unfairly attack one of us, we tend to close ranks and defend each other.
Perhaps you should lighten up a little and try to resurrect your sense of humour. You might even try an apology.

Yikes, this thread has gotten ugly....comment finished.
It's been over three decades rollin for me and although I didn't go out much at first, the itch eventually needed to be scratched, so I went back to a few of my old haunts; the beach, local parks, restaurants, movie theaters, concerts venues, pool halls and even a bar or two...then I expanded my play ground.
You might find a few places that at first don't seem very accessible, but if you call ahead, there is usually a back/kitchen entrance that will get you inside to the party...if the establishment hasn't been modified/updated for wheelchair access, talk to the management. I've been to a few comedy venues that weren't so accessible and got carried into the venue by a few of the customers...fun stuff, I am kinda crazy tho.
I know this may sound strange, but after I got mobile; driving on my own, I started going to local events, parks, beaches, etc...with my camera gear. Taking pictures is great fun, it can often be an ice breaker as well. You never know who you might meet and/or become friends with. Kids always love having their pictures taken and quite often a parent, family member will join in the fun or ask to take a picture; use my gear. I've found that most folks are very receptive, even to us cripples.
Just get out there, be yourself, have fun. Smile, say hi, introduce yourself/partner, make the first move, be bold. We or our partners may roll about, but we can still dance, enjoy ourselves/others...use your imagination.
Hope you find some friends to hang with...never surrender.
Jerry

Oh dear. Another thread destined for the member only area.
I don't much care if you want to attack me, but please do not misquote to boost your argument. This OP is NOT a new member. She joined back in August which is plenty of time to get to know folks here, had she sufficient interest in doing so.

That is not what I wrote and you know it. Anyone who is unfairly attacked here is likely to receive the same degree of support from the other members. I stress the word "UNFAIRLY".

Sometimes people post things that are unfair or deliberately hurtful - like the OP's unwarranted attack on E-Dog. If you prefer reading posts like that, as you so "respectfully" write -- "too bad"! They have no place here because this is a friendly place, where people can ask for and get all the help and support they need. However they are unlikely to get it by antagonizing the people they are asking help from.

well according to her member status "newbie" means new and since august does not mean she is on here everyday like some.

I hate to say you wrote that may not be word for word but was what u said. i can copy and paste it for you. If u think edog was attacked your wrong he did start attacking where they live joke or no joke. you dont say something like that idont know how it is in the UK where your from but in South Florida and Cali where Edog is from you would get your ASS beat.

You are right sometimes people post things that are unfair however you would think someone who is 50+ and has lived through so much would have a little more respect and class.
In regards to what i read, if you notice i respond to variety of posts it just happens to be the ones i read that have negativity in them also have your name attached in some way.
If you noticed my email was pointing out to you a specific case and was more geared towards E-dog which he did apoligize if what he said was offensive.
I am not looking to pick a fight with you by no means. Its like any other click or group when "newbies" try to enter many times members are not as welcoming as they should be. I know we should have tough akin considering our situation however we shouldnt have to have it amongst our peers.
You are welcome Nancy, you are welcome here dont let a few people spoil the great support that comes off here.
P.S. Im glad this goes to the members area because i would be ashamed if a visitor would see how members act in here.
