yeah, but years ago
under brand name Macrobid
I don't remember the side effects (I know that's not helpful), but they were enough to take me off the medicine
I had to go on 6 weeks of Cipro instead (was having my kidney issues at the time)

Hi,
I got some diarrhoea and smelly, dark urine when I took them but otherwise I was OK. Other than that they were pretty good and still work on some of my less sensitive infections.
I tend to just take what the doctor orders until I find a problem as not all side effects will happen to all people.
Regards

I found some side effects from taking Nitrofurantoin.

I had a shortness of breath and I had to stop taking them right away. I had taken two days worth to combat a UTI and I was really short of breath. After looking through the side effects this was one so I called my GP and they were stopped right away.

I was recently in hospital and I had forgotten this had happened and I was prescribed the same tablet and within an hour or so of taking one tablet I noticed I had shortness of breath again. I got checked out by the doctor and I was fine but they have now put on my medical records that I am allergic to this drug.

I don't suffer from any chest complaints or anything like this so I assume it was the drug.

I guess everyone is different and each drug is going to have different effects on each person so this is only MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE on this medication and not something that happens or has happened to others that I know of.

Cheers

I've been using it for about six or seven months,,, 100mg every other day. No problems yet,, but I was recently told that I will have to have blood work and a kidney scan every year as long as I use it.

Apparently in some rare cases, kidney damage has occurred. Not often and not quickly, he said, so checking once a year is adequate.

I'm taking it prophylacticly for UTIs, and it has reduced the frequency and the severity of the ones I do get.

Hope it works for you.
