I've been using Dragon 9.5 for ages. Although I get a few mistakes I find it good, and once its trained to recognised a foreign name it works perfect.

I was using it yesterday but now it wont work. I get this message pop up: -

COM returned an unexpected error code: details are E_FAIL

I know a lot of members use this software, so has anyone experienced the same message or know what I can do? :)

Come on you guys; I know you can help, you're such a clever bunch. :wink05:

hi,

this is a known error.

you can fnd a detailed description and resolution here- http://www.speechcom...g.com/node/1961

setting up regular windows backup/restores can also help to recover from these issues.

Thanks javaftper.

I've downloaded the GetWord/PutWord but as I'm not remotely into IT jargon, I find it all a bit difficult to understand.

As it was ages ago when I set up my Username, I cant remember what it was. Is there a way of finding it? I think I can create a new Username okay.
I think I know what I'll be doing to see in the new year...... :D :)

Thanks for your help.

in vista and win 7 its here-

C:\Users\javaftper\AppData\Roaming\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking10\nsuser.ini

if you open the nsuser file in notepad you can see you all your user names along with some other stuff.

if 'c' is your primary partiton-usually is.
and your NS folder will finish with 9

the appdata folder is hidden by default so you may need to change the win explorer setting for 'show hidden files or folders' to true.

I found my old uer name and created a new username, which was easy. I then went through the set up and sat here 30 minutes while it scanned all my files...

Now my DNS wont respond or even show up on my Manager.... I'll just have to switch off for tonight and try in 2010.

Thanks, but I don't understand computer speak. The only computers around when I was injured were made by Babbage, and the size of a house... :D

Have a good 2010.

Puleez, Mike, quit with the "I don't understand" line. You put many of us to shame with stuff you do one your computer. You are henceforth an advanced user encountering a more advanced problem.

I have been stuck unable to load Dragon for a year and this thread is givingme a new direction to try. Thanks. My own Dad is 89 and had computers since the first came out in the 80s. I felt so stupid compared to him until I spent months sharing an office with him. He was no smarter, just more persistent. He never let frustration rule, just tried new things, or the same things over and over.

Like him, you will probably find a miracle when you load it up in the morning.

Just a little tip about trying new things etc. - Make a note of exactly what you've tried because sure as eggs is eggs, you'll forget at least one little step that will throw you completely the next time to try to repeat it. .........And when I say exact - I mean every single key press and mouse click!

There speaks the voice of experience. :D

Thanks for the compliments on my computer skills but I only know the design or creative side. If someone talks to me in Tech Speak, then they may as well speak to me in Chinese...

Are you telling me I look 89??? ha ha (Not a word GB... :D )

I've got my DNS working again. I created a new user name, then read Alice in Wonderland out loud.... Very entertaining for my PA.. :)

I didn't bother replacing any lost Words, as its easy enough to spell any foreign names I use, like Zdenka; it remembers her name well enough, I wonder why. :)

Have a good 2010.
