I have read that congressional aides who dealt with the drug benefit wording consider it impenetrable. Congress doesn't understand it. Nothing wrong with you, dear. Its the system. I hope your last statement is untrue... cuz I'm next.

My husband qualified from a disability starting last October, and I start with it in March. We researched a lot of plans, then got in contact with a broker. He helped us figure out what was best. The rates actually went down for Part D this year (at least our plan did), and we have a plan that covers a lot. The big problem with the Part D is the "doughnut hole", a period from which you get no Medicare drug coverage after so much (2800?) to a maximum of so much ((4250?), after which they then jump in and pay alot. Some Part D programs though will continue to cover your drugs if they are generic and done by mail order, which is what we strive for.
A lot of senior centers have people you can meet with to help explain the whole thing, and I'm sure they would meet with you even though you're getting it because of disability and not age. It's the same plan either way.
Hope this helps a bit.

You might take a look at CVS's MedicareRx Part D planning tools, they can be found at the link below. Several years back, when this part D benefit... mess...went into effect, I researched various plans for my mother-in-law; who has Alzheimers, and for myself. I found several plans that offered good services with decent monthly premiums, not the rock bottom cheapest, but reasonable...the one we choose and have continued with was/is from AARP.

Here's their website, good luck, they walk you through each step...
