Hi I'm Eli I'm 36yrs old I've been a C-5 C-6 incomplete quadriplegic since 2002. I live in Arizona. This past September I got a blood clot in my upper right thigh. I spent a week in the hospital and was put on a blood thinner. I have massive swelling in the leg and foot. It's now January 09 2010 and I just found out the blood clot isn't any better and I now have one in the lower part of the same leg. If anybody as any suggestions of what I can do to help the swelling please get back to me? My doctors don't know what to do other then for me to raise my leg. Also what meds can I take to help get rid of it? You can email me at fakeplastictrees@cox.net

Hi Eli

Sorry to hear you are having a rough time, which bloodthinner are you on. I had a pulmonary embolism so was initially put on warfarin tablets, where you have to be monitored every few weeks to get the levels right. However due to a complication with a lung disease last week (I had a bleed from one of the growths in my lungs) I was switched onto a drug which is more easily reversible in case I have another bleed (I am at risk of lifethreatening bleeds from the growths in my lungs). So I was switched on to Fragmin, which is a daily injection which I do myself, I am finding this fine and there is no need to monitor my blood levels. The injections are pre-filled and quite user friendly.

Hope this helps, if you want to chat PM me.

Jules
