Hey people,

After four years of experiementing with levels of gabapentin, pregabalin and amatryptyline, not to mention several others which had disastrous side effects, I continue to cast my net far and wide in the hope of finding relief from neuropain in my legs and lower back.

Recently I read about the use of 5HTP to help with pain for people who suffer from fibromyalgia. I decided it was worth a punt and I bought some. However, after only two nights I have suspended my experiment as it seemed to cause a worsening of pain levels. The trouble is, I also caught a cold a couple of days ago, and that always makes my pain levels worse.

So while I wait to shake off the cold and have another go, I was wondering if anyone else had experimented with 5HTP for pain, or whether the neuro-chemistry of 'phantom pain' prevents serotonin playing an active role, just as it prevents opiates from having any meaningful effect.

I'm also planning to come off the Amatryptyline (very gradually) if only to see if it is making any difference. I can't help but feel like I'm running out of pharmacological options, but I could still go for the cordectomy (I'm trapped at L1 by a wonky vertebra).

Thing is, like most, when it's bearable I just want to forget all about it and get on with life. When it's unbearable, I don't have the patience to work through the options methodically.

:recourse:

Grrrrr.

A lot of us can really relate to that,,,, I'm still looking for an answer, too.
