I am new here but figured you guys could help me with an important decision. I am allowed to go to a trial for SCI. Do you think I should consult with my doctor or what? Any information and advice will be helpfull. Thankyou!!

Maybe it's the cold medication I've been taking,,,,, but I haven't the foggiest idea of what he's talking about.

If it's a trial,,,, get a lawyer. What am I missing, here???

I was supposed to be at jury duty today, but oops!!! I mailed in my postponement . . . yesterday :blushing02:

You guys are still hilarious. I knew I'd start laughing at the first thread I pulled up.

If it's a clinical trial, yes let us know. I was reading my newsletter from the Miami Project a couple of weeks ago and saw where they will be starting human trials, but my family was in town during the holidays and I've lost track of the newsletter so I didn't get to finish reading what the trials were about.

Crap, takes me months to find everything and put it back where it belongs. Now you know why I haven't had time to log on so much lately B)

Sorry it took me so long. My computer internet connection was getting swithced between companies. There was a soldier who was injured in israel twenty years ago. He than became involved with helping people like us to walk again. He created this thing called ReWalk, where they hook up braces to ur legs and your abdomin area and som how it sends brain waves or something like this and it makes you walk, go up and down stairs and sit and stand up. They are taking people to trial it for 6-8 weeks in Philadelphia, PA. If you want a man to talk to about it let me know. Im thinking about going just to walk until they start doing more human trials with stem cell?

Let me know what you think i should do?

it looks interesting and couldnt hurt. this is not something a quad can use because the need for good core strength, arms and hands.
this is also trying to make you functional and not ment as rehab or cure. with this type of device you may get comfortable and soon forget to continue with therapy which is the most important thing in regaining functionality. you should really look towards a strength training program that focuses on getting you in shape along with either locomat or fes bike training.
we all like clinical trials because there free but remember there trials and can do damage as well as help you.

I go to Neuroxcel in florida the are a strength and activity based program. I have made treamendous improvements in strength and movement both legs are moving at will and my core and upper body is almost normal

good luck with what you decide but before you jump into anything do your homework first

Sorry mase, but i have to agree w/ ericr. It may be good for you, i'm not going to say it's not; however, i've done my share of clinical trials research. I have my own forum started, you should look it up a bit. Anyways, choosing the right one is the most important thing you can do. Don't just get overly excited about one program and just jump on it. Unless the window is small to get in and you know it'll work. I've seen the research and videos on the rewalk. Like Ericr said, it's only good if you have some stability and good upper body strength. For me it wouldn't work, i'm a lower body injury level though. Also another thing to think about is this. Once you have done one clinical trial you may not be approved for any other ones later on. Just in case you were thinking of later trying another one. And also what ericr said about getting comfortable. You just may get that way w/ this program. I'm not saying it's not awesome. I"ve seen it in action on here, and i thought it was great. Just the freedom to walk around again, wow, what an awesome feeling. But just know that once you get to that place in your recovery, you should definitely keep trying to further it. Don't stop there, you need to keep stimulating different things to your body and brain.

I've been looking for the best trial for months, unfortunately i received some bad news the other day, so i'm not sure what my future holds, but so long as you do the research you should be fine. Here in the states trials are all we have for free, so get in where you fit in my friend!!!

It's really the only way having an upper body injury works out for the better. No one cares to help out the lower guys. We, i guess, are doing too well to need therapy and research. Although we all still can't walk, and feel numb and well just the same, just lower. Sorry.....

I hope all goes well w/ your adventure. See if you can find a long trial. The more therapy for free the better, right???

good luck,
april
