I am looking for a knife + sheathe combo that can easily be concealed below my clothing, around my hip/mid-torso area (so that it's not affected by sitting in a wheelchair), and on my right side (as my right hand is paralyzed, I would use my left hand to grasp the handle). I'd prefer a tension release or small clipped release. I am planning on starting on my journey to get my concealed-weapons permit, and would prefer a edged weapon to a firearm(an accidental cut hurts a hell of a lot less than an accidental discharge, and I think they both provide the psychological violence deterrent that I am planning on arming myself for in the first place.)

Not looking for this to turn into a "weapon-crazed americans' " thread, so please keep those kind of comments to yourself. I am merely looking for suggestions on a practical, safe, and unburdening method to conceal a knife on my side for my own personal safety.

Thanks

Hey Sam,

I found this discussion and website regarding concealed weapons that might interest those of us that want to carry some legal protection, hope this helps, see the links below.

DefensiveCarry Concealed Carry Forum
http://www.defensivecarry.com/
http://www.defensivecarry.com/vbulletin/de...-weapons-2.html

BTW, the idea of carrying a tactical pen seems quite viable if you have some grip, and it would be dual purpose, both weapon and writing devise. There are some heavy duty metal cased writing pens out there that could be quite effective as a poker/ice pick like weapon...remember the bar scene in Casino; Joe Pesci and his lethal ball-point pen. Perhaps one of these tactical pens fitted with a rubber/foam sticky grip and or a wrist strap would do the trick instead of a knife...just a thought. Surefire has some great tactical pens, some are so hard they can even break a window...I kid you not.

Regards,

Jerry :)

PS. The above information was found using Google, the search text was - protection for the disbabled, concealed knife or weapon
- a second search was run as well, with this search text - surefire tactical pen

You'd probably want an automatic folder (i don't think anything will deter someone more than hearing that solid 'THWICK' when your blade opens) , something with a clip on it, that way you can easily attach it to anything on you, or your chair. You want something that is going to be reliable and razor sharp if needed. I'd have to recommend a Tanto type blade for someone with limited hand or arm strength as they penetrate much, much easier.

The most important thing is to be prepared with any weapon you carry, and know how to use it. (I have my CCW permit, but often do not have my gun or even a blade on me, bad i know) there are some nice options for carry guns too if you decide to go that route, very light, very concealable. PM me anytime to talk about that.

I'm not a SOG fan trying to advocate there products, but i do have one of there Multi-tools and it is easily the best made piece of equipment i own.

BINGO!
My kinda thread. I really love knives. A lot!
But do keep this in mind: If you come across someone like me, they will releave you of said edged weapon and sodomize you with it.
So know what yer doing, keep a tight grip and deploy only if you have the sand to use it. Otherwise you will only be making your bad situation far worse.

That in mind. Bladehq.com has lots of what yer looking for.
1. Neck knife-on a lanyard, nylon cord, etc hung around the neck. Easily reached and deployed, yet concealed. Many to choose from. What do you want to
spend?

2. Automatic. (switchblade) also easy concealment and legal in most states. Protech makes one called the "Godfather" with an EXTREMELY sharp, pointed stiletto blade. Again, price will guide you on this one.

3. Fixed blade- which is what you had in mind when you started this thread. Best bet is to call the guy and ask which is best for concealment and for fast deployment.

4. Batons-They make 'em like car antennas. Small but easy to pull out and snap open with a flick of the wrist. 18 to 24 inches would work.

5. Tasers-For when they get close enough.

6. Pepper spray-For BEFORE the get close enough for the taser.

7.Mace-Same as above.

8. Kubaton-Martial arts small hand held, pen-shaped metalic or carbon fiber, or heavy duty nylon devise for punching or backhanded striking.
One guy makes a custom that's a kubaton and inkpen combo. Ain't cheap, but it's way cool Titanium, different options, anodizing, points etc.

Rig up some powerfull pepprspray on different parts of your chair, with easy to reach trigger buttons. A machine shop could do this easy enough.
Pointed in various directions, front, back, sides. Some pepper sprays will shoot out pretty far! Then deploy knife, baton, etc.

Duelists came to realize that a main gauche-small one handed dagger for the left or "weak" hand, along with their sword of choice in the other hand
could do wonders in a tight situation. Block, parry with the epi, then get in close and jab with the dagger. Eyes, throat, or if yer seated, the groin area.
Did you read the book"Hannibal" by Thomas Harris? Maybe you saw the movie. In it Mr. Hopkins pulls a small, claw shaped bladed pocket knife. A Cold Steel I believe or maybe a CRKT. Quickly and almost imperceptibly reaches down, then over and up-watch it closely!!-and across a guy's inside upper thigh, slicing through his femoral artery. Watch as the guy comes to the horrific realization (he didn't even feel the slice) that he's exsanguiating at an incredibly rapid pace. Fool had NO IDEA what hit him. The look on his face as he's dying is classic!

Arizonacustomknives.com for higher end stuff is good also. Talk to Julie, the owner, let her know that you know me, and are in a chair, and she'll help you out. Osograndeknives.com has tons of tactical weapons also.

Actually there are millions of places on the net for this kinda shit. Most don't care about the laws governing this sort of stuff because it's up to the buyer to know his or her state or county restrictions.

OR, you could, if confronted with an attacker, feign insane craziness by flailing yer arms in the air and babbling incoherently and drooling uncontrolably.
That would scare a lot of assholes away. Or at least give you time to do, whatever.

Hope this helps a bit,

Well Hik,,, Edog gave you plenty of places to go,,, and something to think about, too.

No weapon will do any good( and may do quite a lot of harm) unless you are ready and willing to use it. That is one of the main reasons I don't carry,, even tho I have a permit. I am altogether too ready and too willing,, but I don't choose to put myself in a position to make an irrevocable error.

Your not going to want to carry a large fixed blade hunting or tactical knife with you everywhere you go, It will seem cool when you first get it, But the novelty will wear off, because of its size you'll just end up putting it up somewhere and rarely use it.. unless you get a pusher, or a small necklace knife as E-DOG mentioned, But then your friends will look at you like your a weirdo.. freakin' knife necklace.. Ya right. The smaller and lighter it is the more your going to want to carry it. (plus switchblades are plain old cool)

I did find some auto's with the glass breakers on them at Bladehq Pretty good prices on some good knifes: http://www.bladehq.c...-Tactical--1767

That godfather is ridiculously expensive.

My pen has a stainless steal titanium edge nib that's 150 mm long and a tube down the middle where three bullets can be fired down when the ink plunger is activated

Thus the pen is mightier then the sword providing I'm out of arms way

Google "neck knives".
More practical for wheelchair users than sheath/belt systems.
