I got some free samples for some speedicaths and I'm finding it hard to use. The seem to be very stiff and it feels like I'm putting in a solid rod or something. I had to go back to my regular catheter as I couldn't get the speedicath into my bladder. Speedicaths seem be a little more convenient. Just wondering if anyone else had this problem or if I'm just doing something wrong. Any feedback would be appreciated.

i dont know what a speedicath is, but i use the caths that are in the bag and they come with soft or hard catheters in them.........i like them alot u dont have to carry a bunch of stuff around and can just empty the bag afterwards and thro them away, nice and convenient i think.........i use like the mentor self contained bagged catheters, they come in a soft a nd a firm catheter, i have to use the firm to get it to go in.............

Speedicath is just the name of the catheter made by coloplast. It's basically a pre-lubercated catheter that's packaged up. Coloplast

They also make a complete kit with a inclosed system which I'm also looking at. Just wondering if all of them are as firm. I will look into the Mentor brand that you use. Maybe it will be easier for me.

I always used Speedy Cath since my injury, mainly because that was the one I used while in Hospital and not tried any other. I find it very easy and convenient to use. Some times I find it bit difficult to push inside bladder, specially when Bladder is full. Coming forward on char, changing sitting position, or coughing generally helps. Due to lack of Bladder capacity I wear sheath all time and do intermittent Catheter through sheath. Speedycath being stiff makes it easy for me to do cath through sheath.

Only draw back I found is the size and weight when traveling. It takes lot of space when going away for week or more.

I switched over to Lofric Primo about 1.5 yrs ago.
I still have a few boxes of Speedicath left and I'm trying to use them up. But, hell like you say compared to the above I find them way way to stiff, once it hit's the prostrate area it feels like I'm doing damage. The Lofric seems like it bends with the uretha, the speedi seems to be uncompromising, just my experiance...

whichever u use the self contained where u capture the urine and throw away cut my infections down to almost not even 1 a year, the Rousch and ARE brand are supposed to be the only closed cath kits that i know of in the states, even the Bard are not fuly closed, i'm talking about at the end of the cath there is a cap that is closed off to your catheter, it suppose to never let bacteria drive into the bladder, its got about an inch long holder u slip inside the urethra, i'm sure colonplast are about the same but i would look for one called a true closed cath.........because its proven the bacteria u pick up is at the very end of the penis about a half inch in.........oh and all the ones we have you can get the regular red robe or the clear, the clear comes in firm or soft, i usually have an easier time with the firmer ones but have friends that dont like the firm ones at all, they even make a set up for quads that has a clip like mechanism in the bag that lets u get the cath in without compromising a clean cath and no grip in the their hands........

i just looked again, at the coloplast product, i would ask them if they carry the softer catheter also, the package is different but the concepts are the same and if u look they look like the rausch ends where its actually closed off so its not exposed to the bacteria until u've inserted the cath end and inserted the cath, they will clean u up from uti's if u use them like they say, now i dont use the iodine stuff, but one could and it would even help more....

I used speedicath for few years and occasionally I used to see blood on tip of cath, also found it difficult to insert at times. Recently I started using IQ catch with flexible soft tip, since then no more blood, and much easier to insert. http://www.manfredsa...o.uk/iqcath.asp

Hello everybody. I just joined this forum with the hope to help some of you with incontinence issues. My name is Robin Howe and I'm a Continence Nurse Specialist. I actually treat people who have stress and urge incontinence. But I know that some of you have incontinence that isn't retractable and you have to face the trouble of managing it. Managing incontinence well isn't as easy as people think, as many of you probably realize.

I would love any inquires or questions you may have about how to best manage incontinence, care for your skin, do good peri care... I also have a lot of knowledge about incontinence products (the best ones that aren't in the stores!) and urologicals that will help make your life easier.

I read the posts about the Speedy caths being difficult for some people. If you don't have the perfect product for your situation or you're not comfortable with what you're using please give me a call so I can send you a variety of products to try until you get it right. I have a beautiful product for women called The Kathleen and another called the EZ Gripper, made specifically for those with SCI.

Anyway, please feel free to call me if you need support or free samples of incontinence products and/or urologicals 866-708-2730.

Have a nice weekend. I look forward to connecting with the whole group!

Robin Howe, RN
Continence Nurse Specialist
