Not all, but most nights when I lie down, I'm alright for maybe 15 minutes-or-so then I get cold and have to bundle up. Often my muscles tense up and I shiver. This can last as long as an hour or more. Then I'll wake up in the middle of the night so hot that I throw all the covers off and turn on my ceiling fan.
Anybody else experience this?

When you lie down the cold blood from your legs and feet gets back to your body and I think this is why your core feels cold, as it has to warm it up again. Least that's my explanation to myself. I get it more when I haven't exercised as evidently the circulation is worse so the blood in my feet is colder.

I to get cold when I go to bed and warm up slowly
So maybe Guido is on the right track
I do find that wearing long silk socks help and they make it easy to grab and move my feet/leg around too

My temp behaves similarly. I have an electric pad under the sheet and another on the pillow where I wedge my feet. I turn both pads on 15 minutes before I go to bed. First pee break is 2 hours after laying down and I turn off or down the underpad. The one my feet rest against has a hand control so once it gets good and hot I just let go of it to turn off, then later, at the 2 a.m. cath break, i am out of bed long enough that I reheat the foot pad for a bit after getting back in bed. Often by 5am its throw-off-the-quilt time, but not in the winter. My system works pretty well for me.
The massage table pad underlayer cost about $60 USD. It is nice and small so it doesn't interfere with my partner's comfort. The foot pad is a costly thing ( about 24 inches long) but I had it left over from my massage practice.
My Dad always used an electric blanket under his sheet with a timer on it. For people who sleep through the night a timer is essential.
Good luck guys.

Look! It's a snail! It's a sloth! Able to creep short distances before lunch!
