Hey! My cousin was paralyzed in May of 2009. We are wanting to float the river this summer. If the river is running there are some rough spots. If it is not there are some shallow spots that we might drag bottom. Has anyone done this? If so did you use a regular tube or some other floation device to support your legs? Please let me know. Thanks!

I've went on 2 float trips since I've got hurt. I just used float tubes I got from walmart. I think they cost something like $15-20. Heck the one even had a cup holder!! Biggest thing is don't make it a 8hr float. Us cripple guys have trouble lasting that long... 3-4hrs is all I would ever want to do again. Mostly because we're stuck in the "laying on our back floating" position the whole time. Theres no standing, or moving around to stretch or walk through shallow water. If possible try not to go if its really shallow, or else he'll have a hell of a time trying to drag himself through the shallows, its no fun at all, and very hard. Especially without spilling your beer :D Make sure he watches his bottom so he doesn't ram it into underwater sticks & logs, and watch for rocks...lol

anymore questions just ask!

p.s.
the ride on someones back to and from the river is always fun. Just make sure whoever carries him out isn't to drunk, or make sure its a easy exit from the river, and not a steep 10-15' bluff that you have to climb like we had to last year. hahaha

I went tubing in San Antonio Tx and we got tubs that had a piece of plastic on the bottom held on with zip ties and that was great because I didnt fall through and I didnt have to worry about hitting rocks and stuff
