Hey everyone, I'm here to learn from you and pass on helpful imformation to my nephew Scott.( C5/C6 injury)Scott is 29, injured when he was 21. His mother and care giver is my sister. I'm very worried about both of them. They are very depressed and overwhelmed with the problems that come with this injury. Scott does not like to talk about his injury with others. He also does not want his mother to seek help. With that kind of attitude he will end up in bad shape. I would like to prevent that from happening.
I have been reading some of your entrys. I see he's not in the boat by himself. Some of you are having simular problems. Scott now is having problems with his bladder.
Some days go by ok, others he will bresk out into a heavy sweat and have burning pain when urinating. He will finish and the urge to urinate comes back with the burning, pain and lots of sweating . This goes on until he desides to leave the catheter in all night to get relief. The next day he is exhausted. This could continue or it may check up for a few days. Then it will start up again. It will go and come when he least expects.Does this sound famillar to any of you?.........Can anyone help us???........ Sorry for the long story........

Hi. Sorry to hear of the issues Scott is dealing with, as I know how uncomfortable it can be. I use to be just like him, and hated even talking about issues like simple UTI's and such. He'll grow out of it.

Anyway, has he been in to see a Urologist yet? This sounds a lot like what I went through when I began having issues with bladder stones, which were causing extremely uncomfortable bladder spasms, sweating, hot flashes, and always feeling like I was never getting my bladder emptied. I was also extremely fatigued. I would seriously have him see a Urologist and have tests done to check for bladder stones or crystals. As uncomfortable as all the tests and procedures may be, it is well worth it in the end.

One thing I was wondering, does he only have this profuse sweating when he caths? I have had a couple things happen that had caused this, so just wanna make sure not to point you in the wrong direction. If it is just related to cathing, he may very well have crystals/stones in his bladder, or even possibly a problem with yeast in his urinal tract/bladder, which can be hellacious. Both can run you down bad, make you feel ill, have hot flashes, feel clammy or sweaty, just all around horrible. Have him see a urologist, not a family doctor.

Really hope this helps. Feel free anytime to ask me about bladder issues. I been through quite a few, so I have gained my share of knowledge.

Hope he feels better soon.

yes, go see an urologist and find a good one and keep him or her, he will need one the rest of his life, u can die from not taking care of uti-kidney infections............not going is not an option..........and i'd say its dysreflexia is causing some of his pain and other problems........from infections, etc...........

I would suggest calling one of the larger hospitals in the area and ask for a referral. They are usually familiar with most of the different specialists in the region and might be able to steer you in the right direction. Or try the state medical board.

my primary doctor found me a good urologist that takes medicaid. even in a big city like ft. lauderdale not many are around. He should have had one in the hospital that watched over him usually they are very good and take medicaid if needed.
