Eleanore's Project (non-profit) is heading to Peru for the 7th year to provide wc's with custom seating systems for 100 children. Team includes clinicians, techs and OT college students. All the frame and seating components are on their way down via ship. Please see requitment letter below for details and contact information. Two tech already going, two more will ease the workload. Please share with those who are skilled to work on frames. Thanks for passing the word. Mary Jo

Imagine meeting a child in need of a wheelchair and not having to get an Rx, quotes, prior approval, shipping dates and schedules - but instead by the end of the day the child leaves sitting in a frame and seating systems put together by yourself, a therapist and OT students. All the frames, seating and accessories were shipped in advance ready for selection and installation. What you needed to bring were your tools, skills, creative problem solving, compassion and team spirit.

Eleanore’s Project is looking for people with wheelchair tech skills to join a group of clinicians and OT students on the next trip to Peru in March. This will be its sixth visit with ground travel and lodging logistics prearranged. If you have specific mechanical experience and knowledge to modify and fix wheelchair frames, change tires, put on airless inserts, and other seating components, etc., you’re the right person for the job. We will have plenty of hands (OT students and clinicians skilled in seating) to do work but we need expertise to direct these hands. Technicians do not need to speak Spanish.

Previous tech participants are willing to pass on their experiences, guidance and suggestions for your success as a volunteer for Eleanore’s Project. Ask to contact folks who have gone on previous trips. Click on the web site to see the quality of the work accomplished on previous trips. If interested contact Tamara Kittelson-Aldred and submit your application found on the web site, http://www.eleanores....org/index.html Tamara’s email: tamaralka@gmail.com

The seating clinics will be held March 15 – 26 - the end of summer in the southern hemisphere. We will be working in Lima and Arequipa; volunteers must arrive in Lima by March 14 in order to be ready to work on the 15th. Volunteers are responsible for their own expenses, which average $1500-2000 depending on flight costs from your city of origin. Eleanore’s Project is a 501 © (3) organization and can provide IRS receipts for donations made to support volunteer expenses. Many volunteers obtain sponsorships and/or raise funds to cover costs. We will also provide a letter documenting volunteer hours, which can be used for professional licensure and credentialing in some cases.

Please forward this email to help us connect with the right person(s).
