Hello. I am new to the site & wanted to introduce myself. I am a T3 complete injured July 4, 2009. It was my 34th birthday & I dove into the lake hitting bottom. I was with my beautiful daughters (age 8 & 12 at the time) and my boyfriend among many others. I spent 1 month in the hospital ICU & 1 month in rehab. I came home to my girls & tons of support from my amazing boyfriend & close friends. I feel like I should be much further along than I am. I have severe back pain from the screws & rods in my back & sweat constantly. I have a good attitude about it but usually don't feel that great physically so my progression is not the best. Just hoping it all gets better with time.

Alexis,
Welcome to the site. There's a wealth of info on here given by others who've been there and understand your situation. Check out the threads on pain management. Hopefully they can help you find ways or other options to cope with the pain.

Hang out and feel free to join in with the discussions.

Hey there Alexis, welcome aboard!

Water type injuries are not uncommon, a bit of beautiful blue pacific wave and a sandbar ended a great morning's body surfing for me. Life does get better, give yourself and everyone around you time to heal, to adjust and enjoy the fact that you survived. Life can be tough on wheels, but it can be mighty wonderful as well...

As for the nerve pain, all of us are so different and deal with our pains the best we can. Seek out help, get the medications you really need, exercise, stretch, perhaps even try meditation. What ever works to help you manage through...go for it.

There are lots of wonderful caring people around and tons of info, leverage everyone's wisdom and don't be afraid to contribute, speak your mind, it's what makes this place so cool/supportive. Come join us crazies in chat sometime, we don't bite...really we don't :paper:

Regards,

Jerry :)

Welcome Alexis. I'm sorry about your continuing pain from the rods and screws. Some days I find mine so irritating I can hardly stand it. But other times it's not so bad.
I'm glad you have some great supportive people in your life. It makes a lot of difference.
The people here are a great source of support also.

Thank you for all the welcomes. I am lucky for only being a para from the dive. They are still not sure how I pulled that off but I am thankful to be here & that it was not worse. I have also checked out the pain management & will look more. I just wonder if more activity will make it better or worse but I guess I won't know until I try. Thanks all!!

I guess I won't know until I try

Thats the attitude
Yes there will be changes and adjustments and new things to try
It's just as important to relise the things you can't do anymore and not to let that pain you

Although I have a double kink fused joint - never had rods
I do enjoy my new life - got to - the oposite is unthinkable

At least you can watch Dallas loose again next season

Welcome Alexis

You are still quite early on after your SCI so things will settle down, especially the discomfort from the Rods and screws because these are a foreign body that your body has to get used to.

Feel free to PM me or ask advice here, we are all happy to help and advise as much as we can.

Jules

Where is Waldo, or Alexis? :) :) I've been driving all over trying to find Alexis. Where are you chica? T4 plus T3 = T7. I'd like to have some abdominal muscles again. Sweet nostalgia. Just trying to keep track of you.

Hi Alexis and welcome,

I'm only 10 months in and a month out of hospital, starting the long journey of life phase 2 as well,

remember to keep smiling even if it's only on the inside, there is always something to distract you from the difficult times even for a moment.

Good luck and look forward to hearing how you get on.

Welcome, as everyone said this is a great place to be for your situation. Hit me up anytime you want to just vent without bothering anyone. It gets hard not wanting to worry family and friends and feeling sometimes like your a bother and here we understand and you can complain without the guilt and with the understanding so dont hold back. I have all the time in the world and am more than willing to talk. Hang in there and keep pushing, life really is worth it.
