We are looking at going to Malta and I was wondering if anyone had been?

Its our first holiday abroad so want it to be as stress free as possible. We want to go somewhere warm in late Sept so if you have any other reccomendations I'd be grateful

Thanks

Dee x

Hi, I went to Malta a couple of years ago flying RyanAir. What you have to remember about Malta is hills, mountains with a few steep slopes and LOTS of steps chucked in for good measure

The airport there is new so access is fine but you can't take the buses and taxi's are expensive so I would recommend hiring a car. This would allow you to explore the island, take the ferry to Gozo but be warned they all drive like mental cases, the roads are very poor and parking is difficult in town. Malta is a beautiful country and a very special place - you'll either love it or hate, I'm glad I went however i'm in no rush to go back.

For your first holiday aboard I would recommend somewhere flatter and easier to get around with a good promenade such as Los Cristianos in Tenerife, Spain (Costa del sol, Costa Blanca etc) or one of the Med island. All of these place have many accessible hotels and better access to shops, bars etc.

Hope that's of some help.

I have to agree with Doppleganger
Think you might have made a bad choice for a first choice

I was going to live in Malta - it's a long and not particularly exciting story. Anyway it didn't work out and I remember feeling relieved as I just didn't think it had anything to write home about! When I was there, before my accident, I had to work hard at keeping entertained. Can think of other Mediterranean places I'd much rather visit.

I enjoyed Malta while I was AB about 30 years ago. The eating places were fantastic. It's probably changed a lot since then.

I did however have an unfortunate experience with a bidet that scalded all the skin of my dangly bits, which rather spoiled the second week of the holiday. It was Easter so all the doctors and pharmacies were closed. Thank heaven for the Savlon we had taken with us!

So, guys and gals, enjoy Malta but leave the bidets well alone. They can ruin your day!

Carpe Diem

I want to go to Malta - does any one know of any accessible accommodation, preferrably a villa or apartment, but hotel is OK?

What about car hire with hand controls?

Accommodation isn't a real problem but car hire will be!

This is the hotel I used: http://www.coastline.com.mt It's has good reviews and I had no problems getting around, Reviews: http://www.tripadvis...d_of_Malta.html
