My husband has a c1-2 spinal chord injury and he just had a diaphragm pacer implanted yesterday. He is currently undergoing weaning from the ventilator and I am interested in communicating with others who have had the procedure and to hear about their experiences.

I'm sorry that nobody has responded to you. I have not had this procedure done so I can give you any insight their, but stay positive. I was told that I might never be weaned off the ventilator or have much trach removed, but I was successful in doing both. After living in hospitals from August to December of 2009, I found there are a lot of negative medical staff out there. In particular, my respiratory therapist. Never stop believing in your husband and stay strong. Best of luck to both of you!

hey jwohl
im sorry youre not getting the first hand perspective that youre looking for on here. I think it may be due to the lack of this particular procedure being performed. i met a guy while rehabbing down at the shepherd center in atlanta who had the pcer implanted. i think his mother said that he was the first one done in florida or maybe the country since christopher reeves, im not sure though. that was in march 2009. He went home in april '09 and i think he is still weaning but gets off the ventilator for longer periods of time. ill ask him how much he uses the ventilator now.

best of luck to you and your husband
