It is me or does this photo (or about 2 similar) appear every week on a new disability website or disability magazine advert:

Attached Image: aaa.jpg

It's a crap photo anyway for all sorts of reasons, and I first came across it when I was looking for a stock photo for my home page over a year ago, and it was one I rejected. What this tells me is that there aren't enough good photos of beautiful wheelchair users looking "happy and free" in a wheelchair. Now many of you have posted photos in various threads and I KNOW there are some good looking chicks on this site.

If you know anyone who's handy with a camera, get them to take some pro-level shots of you in this ilk - like this woman (i remember the original magazine article about her travels) - and stick them up on the various stock photo sites and earn yourselves some cash every time a business uses them - e.g. istockphoto.com

You can then revel in glorious pin-up vanity, businesses can be a little more creative, and I don't have to look at the same crap photo so often.

It's a win-win-win!

Clive

Ooohhh do it! I'd pay to see that imagine.

It's something I've noticed before every time you see someone in a chair it's always some awful thing that looks the ones you find in hospitals designed for taking anything that doesn't move fast enough for the nurses needs.
Perhaps I should get Scribs to get the camera out again when we go out and raise some money so that he can keep spoiling me with wonderful meals and flowers! :(

The romantic meal might make a wonderful mood setting for the Disabled Masterchef link. My god, we're onto something here....

As for the speedos, Clive, you're gonna be some devo's dream. Maybe we should do an Apparelyzed Calendar for 2011? CT - you and Scribs have already got February. GB has obviously got December. Just need a red suit big enough... The Yanks better have November with Thanksgiving and all that jazz.

Any other volunteers? Which month? Why? And how photographed?

If aging long haired hippy types are allowed, I'll take May since Trin is doing April...just don't ask me to pose near any sandbars, they are evil :suicide:

I'd do July-- my birthday is the 8th, and what with Independence Day and all it would work well. I have red hair so if I wore something blue and white we'd have the red, white and blue! Maybe a flag and some fireworks?

Lordy lordy! This is turning into something!

So I've given it some thought, and obviously it would need Simon's approval if it were to be an "Apparelyzed 2011"

Maybe democracy, with a few final judicious eyes, should sort this.

"Applicants" who'd like a month - or a tastefully collaged part of a month, if it goes crazy - should submit photos on this thread. We can then decide which to use and suitable quotes, one-liners, etc.. and then collect originals for print at the end.

However, the constraints would be:

- Photos need to be of a high resolution so they print well
- Postage costs mean sorting this from one country is prohibitive, so someone would have to volunteer to organise printing & distribution in each country, having been given the originals.
- It could either be not for profit, or profits given to Spinal charity of our choosing - each nation chooses its own charities
- Simon's approval
- Orders to be taken before print runs so there is no wastage or loss.

Laudable to want to collect for a charity, but who do you think will want to buy your product. I may be out of sync here, but I suspect the production costs are likely to be far greater than the takings.

I could do May (Mother's Day) with all 6 of my children!!:) I'm no beauty, but I'm happy, I can smile, and I have a cool chair! Does that count?
I mentioned pictures of people in their chairs on one thread when I was new here so that I could see what you all had on your chairs like tires, foot plates, spokes, back rests, cushions, etc. I was brand new to all this, didn't have a clue about any of this stuff and the medical group was ready to order my chair and was asking all these questions about what cambor I wanted and I didn't have a clue!! So, I thought if I got on here and asked for people to put pictures on, then I could ask them about what I saw and what it was and they could educate and help me. A picture is worth a million words you know. I was answered back "are you kidding" so it didn't go over to well. I was then educated on the weirdo's who like to stalk these places and get some kind of weird kick out of our photos (which once again proved how clueless I was to this new way of life) so I dropped and had to learn a different way.
I have seen that stupid picture many places too. It is so unrealistic and gives a bad impression. I love graphic design and I have thought about trying to come up with some stuff myself. But....where I live is podunkville and not a market for it. Marketing is not my talent so I wouldn't no what else to do!

Good point GB. I mean, how big can the pool of devos be? Not big enough, I wager.

Haha, I agree with you both. Wasn't going to try to market them outside this site, but just for a laugh for people here (i.e. a print to order run).

But am happy to have it as a daft thread too!

In this age of boundless technology why on earth would we destroy trees for a calender; old school thinking, watermark each photo with each subject's or a single copyright notice; if necessary, and build a simple HTML based solution and or an eDoc; PDF, etc. solution, and put the gimp/crip calender on every desktop, laptop, pda, iphone, etc...

There are a few of us geekoids on this site that could do this...leverage us.

I dated an April,,, when I was young. Don't remember doing anything in the snow with her,,, but there was this pile of leaves,,,,,,

I'm certainly no calender model,,, tho I have had staples about my middle,,, but I don't think they took pictures. I would, however, love to have a screen saver with all you lovelies on it.

Well, you lovelies can't take the photos yourselves can you? So I think I'll have to volunteer. (I want to get in first before old Scribs wakes up to the possibilities)

Sounds like time for me to service the old scooter and prepare to tour the countryside with my trusty camera.

After all, who else could you trust to take naked pics but a harmless old geezer like me?

Of course, I would have to stay overnight while the scooter recharges, but I'm perfectly house-trained and everything.

Just email your addresses and I'll trundle out to ensure you are posed exactly right to capture all your best features for posterity. It might take some time to get the best shot, but never fear, my camera holds several thousand images. :D
