For the past month I have been dealing with uncontrollable sweats coming from my head. I recently had a UTI and thought I may had still had some bacteria left over. I had another urine analysis done and it came back negative! I am so confused as to what may be causing this. I also have noticed that my spasms have increased as well. Please help!! :wheelchair:

Has your routine changed in any way?? Any new medications, new clothing, new shoes, new chair??? Is it worse at night or during the day?? In your chair or laying down??

For me any type of sweating is a sign of dysreflexia...

Last time I had a UTI it took me 10 weeks before bladder and spasms settled down. Maybe I'm unlucky.

My routine has not changed at all. The sweats are worse during the day while I'm up in my chair. It settles down when I'm laying down but starts back up when I'm up. I have history of kidney stones and have a follow up appointment next week to see how the stones are.

Kidney stones could definitely play a part in the sweating however it only happens when you get up in your chair... maybe it's the pressure on the kidneys (if you do have kidney stones) just a way of letting you know something is wrong and hurting.

Do you feel pain?

Yeah that's what the nurses suggested where I receive therapy. I have an appointment next Thursday with my urologist. I don't have much sensation but my nerve pain has increased as well. The constant sweating makes me feel fatigued all day and the dark circles under my eyes are getting worse. Last time I was in the hospital they found one stone so I'm not sure if it has gotten worse.

The fatigue could be from whatever is causing you to have the sweats. So it's important that you figure out what exactly is causing you to have the episodes. Get some blood work done, go to your urologist.

I have had kidney stones before... no fun and dysreflexia kicks in big-time! Keep us updated.

It's the same for me, sweating is the 1st sign of dysreflexia.
Do your toe nails need cutting? :) Good luck at uro.

Yeah it sucks. I'm trying to isolate the problem and find the source. I'm looking into my kidneys now, since I've had history of kidney stones. Not only that but the constant sweating seams to be dehydrating me. I am also beginning to get terrible looking dark circles underneath my eyes, I have read in a few places that it can be indicative of a kidney problem. I am actually in the emergency room at the hospital right now waiting for them to call me. I didn't want to wait any longer so I decided to check myself in here until they find the problem because I am sick of feeling this way! I was in Miami this weekend and couldn't even enjoy myself because of my sickly appearance and these terrible sweats! I'm one year post, newly injured....I just keep thinking of how healthy I used to be and now to deal with all these complications it gets really frustrating! My name is Jonathan by the way! So how did you handle your sweats and what was causing it?

Jonathan, I didn't realize you were only one year post injury... that may have a lot to do with it! Your body is still "adjusting" to the injury. The first two years post injury for me, I had lots of UTIs etc. but even without having any infection... the sweating still happened.

Still check out your kidneys... do you cath??

Also whenever you get up in your chair... are you on any blood pressure medication?

Yeah, one year anniversarywas on the 23rd od February. Anyways, I'm getting my kidneys checked out today and hopefully I get an answer. I do self cath. Whenever I'm up in my chair my blood pressure is fine, it's just the sweating. However, there are some days that I feel fine and its not that bad. Uuuugghh.....so frustating!

Loving the posts, but really curious to see if determined2heal got results with the kidney stone check out at the urologist.

My husband is an incomplete C6-7 quad and very active and independent. He had rod surgery to help back pain and scoliosis back in Feb 2010 and has had uncontrollable sweats as well. It is miserable and he is about to start a new job but just freezing cold and contstantly sweating. that is no fun for starting a new job.

So - ANYONE - PLEASE ANYONE - out there that has any suggestions, please throw them our way! Thanks in advance. I didn't see a conclusion from determined2heal either, but if anyone knows if it was a kidney issue - we can at least rule that out. Thanks. We have ruled out about everything else. He has no UTI, it is not AD, no infectious disease or thyroid problem.

Anyone else suffer from sweats and have cause or treatment?

Help! Thank you!

I've still have weid sweats but it's calmed down in the last weeks. I thought I had this and that and now after 2 years they finally gave me an mri and a cat scan and some more x-rays only too tell me it's a unhealed sore on my back from when they fused a few vertabrae together. Only took 20 years too figure that one out. I've had pain all that time but was able too manage it till the sweats started. It was so bad that in the morning I'd have a salty outline around me and I could run my hand down the back of my leg and make a wave. Now it settled alot and I don't take any drugs too control it anymore. Be more demanding with them. I wish I had and take evey test under the sun. They don't understand alot ogf the time that one more thing may just ruin your life. I was told I was nice and wouldn't hurt a fly once. My reply was that all those crazy mail guys and their guns were nice too! Oh, and before I forget, I also went for ultrasound on the kidneys and had the camera poked in me and also had x-rays of my guts too. Had too drink that crap in a bottle and sit on a tolet all day. All because they didn't want too give me an mri!!!! And as far as going out when its freezing, I would put on insulated pants, boots, etc.... and go and get on my tractor and blow snow when it was 36-C out and I would have frostbite all over me. Then when I though I should have cold legs and feet, I wouldn't. I don't know why but they would be all toasty and the cold sort of made the sweats go away. I've even had it when my legs would be freezing and my feet would be nice and warm. What the hells with that? I ask but, knowone ever has anything for me.

Have a nice day!!!!!!!

I also was miserable with uncontrolled sweating, but found a drug that controlled it. "Inversine" originally used for malignant hypertension. The only side effect for me is constipation.
