I currently use LoFric Primo catheters for SIC and I was wondering if anyone out there knows of a catheter that can be reused as it would make travelling a lot easier if I didn't have to cart around hundreds of catherters with me! If so, did you find any problems in respect of UTIs, etc?

Many thanks

Have a look through this thread: http://www.apparelyz...showtopic=13328

There's quite a bit of info on this as it's a common question. Go to SCI Health Issues section >> Bladder and Bowels and have a trawl through.

for UK residents - DisabledGear.com - the FREE-Ads website for 2nd hand disability equipment.

New to forum so hope following protocols.

You can resuse single use catheters many times if properly sterilised. Sterilise in 70% isopropyl alcohol and store in sandwich bags. Not ziplock, bulky and expensive. Invert simple sandwich bag, pluck catherter from alcohol and envelope catheter in bag. Like picking up dog poo, apologies for comparison.

I used to use Milton tablets but got endless utis (and chlorine degrades silicone coating). Microwaving no good either for plastic catheters according to literature. I take 6 - 8 catheters in bags to work each day; when traveling I take alcohol and tuperware container and bags.

Seems to work and the smell is better than bleach. But have to admit has never been recommended by a hospital.
